The eleventh as the house of streams
The eleventh receives, and it receives from whichever houses its lord and its occupants connect it to. A native whose eleventh lord sits in the tenth has one stream, the profession, and it can be a large one; a native whose eleventh lord sits in the third with Mercury in the eleventh and a dual sign on it has three or four, none of them large, and the reading of the two charts for money is entirely different even when the totals are the same. The first native’s fortune rises and falls with one employer; the second’s is spread, and its weakness is that no single stream is worth defending. The three signatures of more than one income
Three things in a chart read as more than one stream. Several planets in the eleventh, each planet being a source, so that a Sun and a Mercury in the eleventh give income through authority and income through trade, and an eleventh with three planets gives three streams by the planets’ natures whatever the lord does. A dual sign on the eleventh, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces, which gives the eleventh two natures and the native two kinds of gain, treated in the next section. And the eleventh lord placed in a house other than the tenth, since the eleventh lord in the tenth is the single stream of the profession and the eleventh lord anywhere else names a second house through which gains arrive. A chart with two of the three has a second income as a matter of course; with all three it has the native whose accountant needs a spreadsheet. Mercury connected to the eleventh, by lordship, occupation or aspect, strengthens all three, because Mercury is the planet of the many and of the transaction, and the eleventh with Mercury’s touch gains in pieces from several directions. The dual-sign rule: four ascendants built for two streams
The dual signs, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, fall on the eleventh house for four ascendants: Gemini on the eleventh for Leo, Virgo for Scorpio, Sagittarius for Aquarius, and Pisces for Taurus. Mercury and the many
Mercury is the planet of the many, the transaction and the middleman, and its connection to the eleventh is the planet-level signature of multiple income. Mercury in the eleventh gives gains through several small sources, writing, trade and the network of the clever, and it aspects the fifth from there, favouring the royalty and the analysed investment. The eleventh lord placed in the house the stream comes through
The eleventh lord in the third gives the side work: income through the native’s own hands, writing, communication, short travel and the younger sibling, the second stream that is done in the evenings and eventually outgrows the day. In the fourth, the rent: gains through property, vehicles and the mother, the flat let out, the land leased, the income that arrives from what is owned. In the fifth, the royalty and the return: gains through what was created or invested, the book, the course, the portfolio, the children’s fortune, speculation that is judged. In the seventh, the partner’s stream: the business partnership, the spouse’s income joined to the household’s, the client who became a partner. In the ninth, teaching, the foreign and fortune: the second income from abroad, from students, from the father’s side, from luck. In the twelfth, the foreign stream with expense attached: income earned abroad and kept there, or gains that disperse; and in the sixth, the stream that is service alongside the main work, the second job, the practice run beside the salary, with the debt that finances it. The placement names the second stream; the eleventh lord’s dignity says whether it is worth having.
Passive against active: which houses work by themselves
Income that works by itself comes through the fourth, the fifth and the eighth: rent from property, returns from what was invested or created, and money that arrives through others’ money, interest, dividends, the settlement, the trust. A chart with the eleventh lord in one of those, or with those houses’ lords in the eleventh, has the passive stream; a chart with the fourth lord in the eleventh, in particular, is the landlord’s placement, gains through property, read in the fourth lord in the eleventh, and the fifth lord in the eleventh is the investor’s and the author’s, in the fifth lord in the eleventh. Income that is worked for comes through the third, the sixth, the seventh and the tenth: the side work, the second job, the partnership and the profession. The first column names the stream, the second the connection that has to exist in the chart, the third the planets that most often carry it, and the fourth the sub-period in which it usually begins; a stream whose houses are unconnected in the chart does not start in any period, and the native who wants it should choose one of the streams the chart does carry.
When the second stream starts
A second stream starts in the sub-period of the lord of the house it comes through, inside a major period that touches the eleventh or the second: the third lord’s sub-period for the side work, the fourth lord’s for the rent, the fifth lord’s for the royalty, the seventh lord’s for the partnership. The eleventh lord’s own sub-period starts whichever stream its placement names, and the sub-period of a planet sitting in the eleventh starts that planet’s kind. Jupiter’s transit over the eleventh, or over the house the stream comes through, gives the year, and Jupiter over the third is the classical year the evening trade is registered, over the fifth the year the book is written or the portfolio started, over the fourth the year the flat is let. A reading of a native who wants a second income names the stream the chart carries and the sub-period in which to start it, which is a better answer than the one the native usually brings, a stream they read about that their chart does not hold.
The stream that costs more than it earns
Not every second stream is worth having, and the chart says which. The eleventh lord in the twelfth gives the stream that disperses, the foreign income spent abroad, the side business that consumes the salary; the eleventh lord in the sixth gives the second job financed by debt, and the sixth lord in the eleventh the stream that arrives as a loan; the eleventh lord in the eighth gives the return that reverses, the investment stream that pays and then takes. Rahu on the eleventh gives the stream that starts as a surge and must be converted, and Ketu on the eleventh the stream the native does not track and lets go. The rule for the second stream is the rule for all money in this cluster: it has to pass through the twelfth before the second can keep it, and a second stream in a chart whose twelfth outscores its eleventh in bindus is a second drain. Too many streams: the scattered eleventh
The scattered eleventh is the other failure: four or five planets in the eleventh, or Mercury and Rahu on it with a dual sign, giving the native who has seven small incomes and no career, who is always starting the eighth, and whose eleventh’s bindus are divided among too many sources for any to matter. The reading of such a chart is consolidation: the stream that belongs to the strongest planet in the eleventh, or to the eleventh lord’s own placement, is the one to build, and the others are the ones to let Ketu have. Saturn’s transit over the eleventh, feared as the stall, is in these charts the pruning, the two and a half years in which the streams that were not worth having stop by themselves, and a scattered native who comes out of that transit with two incomes instead of six has been done a service. The consolidation is timed like any Saturn work, and its result, the two streams that remain, is usually the passive one and the active one the native was best at, which is the arrangement the chart was suggesting all along. A worked chart: four incomes in one Jupiter period
A Taurus lagna chart, particulars altered, an ascendant with Pisces, a dual sign, on the eleventh. Jupiter, lord of the eighth and eleventh, sits in Pisces, its own sign, in the eleventh: the eleventh lord in its own dual house, a stream with two natures and the eighth’s returns attached. Mercury, lord of the second and fifth, sits in Gemini, its own sign, in the second: the fifth’s created things and the second’s keeping in one planet, and Mercury aspecting the eighth from there. The Sun, lord of the fourth, sits in Gemini in the second with Mercury: the property lord on the house of savings, rent that pays into the reserve. Read the signatures. Two planets in the eleventh, Jupiter and Ketu, with a dual sign on it: two natures and a stream the native does not chase.
