The twelfth as income: expense that runs backwards
The twelfth house is the house of what leaves, and a dignified twelfth lord connected to the money houses reverses the direction: the border the money usually crosses on its way out becomes the border it crosses on its way in. The classical reading of the twelfth as loss is still true, since the same house that brings the foreign income takes the foreign expense, the flights, the rent in two countries, the tax in two systems, the money that stays behind when the native comes home; and the honest reading of foreign income is always a net reading, what crossed the border in against what crossed it out. The twelfth lord’s dignity decides the direction more than anything else: in its own sign or exalted, or in the second, eleventh or fourth, the twelfth gives; debilitated, combust or in the sixth or eighth, it takes; and a twelfth lord in its own house, the Vimala formation, gives the foreign life that pays for itself, the expense that is purposeful and the earning that is abroad. Six kinds of foreign income and the houses each uses
The salary abroad is the tenth joined to the twelfth: the native’s profession practised in another country, the twelfth lord in the tenth or the tenth lord in the twelfth, with Saturn or Rahu as the usual planet; its money is a salary like any other, paid in another currency. The remote work for foreign clients is the third and the seventh joined to the twelfth or ninth: the native at home, the client abroad, communication across distance and partnership across a border, with Mercury and Rahu as its planets, and it is the fastest-growing kind of foreign income in consultation. The export is the seventh and the twelfth with Mercury, trade across the border, goods going out and money coming in. The remittance is money received from a relative abroad, the twelfth lord on the second with the third or eleventh for the sibling who sends it, the ninth for the father, the fifth for the child, and the Moon for the mother’s side; it is the oldest kind of foreign income in this country and the one most often read backwards, as the native’s own loss, when it is the family’s gain. The foreign return is the fifth or eighth with the twelfth: the investment held abroad, the pension from a foreign employer, the dividend in another currency. And the foreign property income is the fourth with the twelfth: the flat let out in the country the native left, or the land bought abroad that pays. Each kind uses a different pair of houses joined to the foreign, and the reading names which kind the chart carries before it says whether the money is worth having.
The twelfth lord on the second or eleventh: the plainest signatures
The twelfth lord in the second is, in a chart with a dignified twelfth lord, the plainest foreign-income signature there is: the foreign house’s ruler sitting in the house of savings, so that what is earned abroad is kept at home, the remittance that builds the family’s reserve, the foreign salary that becomes the house in the home town. In a chart with a weak twelfth lord the same placement is the leak, expense sitting inside savings, treated in Money Problems in the Chart, and the reading has to say which of the two a native has, since the placement alone does not. The twelfth lord in the eleventh gives gains through the foreign, the income that arrives from abroad as income rather than as savings, the foreign client, the foreign employer’s pay, the network in another country; with a weak twelfth lord it is gains dispersed, the eleventh’s income flowing out through the twelfth’s channels. Both placements are read with the twelfth lord’s dignity first and the second house’s capacity second, and both are money signatures only when the twelfth lord can give.
The second or eleventh lord in the twelfth: earned there, kept there
The reverse placements read from the other side. The second lord in the twelfth gives savings held abroad, or savings spent on the foreign, by the lord’s dignity: dignified, the native who keeps money in another country and comes home wealthy; weak, the native whose savings go on the foreign and do not return. The eleventh lord in the twelfth gives gains earned abroad and kept there, the income that exists in another currency and does not cross back, or, weak, gains that disperse, one of the Daridra forms. The distinction between the two directions, the twelfth lord on the money houses and the money lords in the twelfth, is the distinction between money that comes home and money that stays where it was earned, treated in its own section below, and a chart with both, the twelfth lord in the second and the second lord in the twelfth, has the exchange, the native whose money moves both ways across the border all their life and who lives, financially, in two countries.
Rahu, the ninth and the third: the doors and the channels
Rahu is the door: the planet of the unfamiliar, the foreign employer, the foreign client and the country the native had never thought of, and Rahu in the twelfth, ninth, eleventh or tenth is the usual placement behind the foreign connection through which money arrives, read for the settlement side in the Rahu and foreign settlement article and for the money side in the Rahu article linked at the top; Rahu’s foreign income arrives at scale and reverses in its second half, and the sentence about converting it applies with particular force to money earned in a currency the native cannot hold. The ninth house is the long journey and fortune abroad, and the ninth lord connected to the twelfth and the money houses gives the foreign income that is fortune, the scholarship that became the job, the foreign teacher, the luck in another country; the ninth is the channel of the kind of foreign money that feels like a gift. The third is short travel and communication across distance, and the third lord connected to the twelfth and eleventh gives the foreign income that is earned by the hands and the word from home, the channel of the remote worker; a strong third with a foreign twelfth is the chart of the native who never emigrated and earns as though they had.
The remote worker: foreign clients from home
The native who earns from foreign clients without leaving is the new case, and the chart reads it as the third and the seventh joined to the foreign rather than as the twelfth alone: communication across distance, the third; the client as partner, the seventh; the border, the twelfth or ninth; and the planets are Mercury, for the work done through the screen, and Rahu, for the client in the unfamiliar market. Mercury in the twelfth in dignity is the translator’s and the coder’s placement, the mind exported; the seventh lord in the twelfth gives the partner or client abroad; the third lord in the eleventh with the twelfth lord aspecting gives the evening work for a foreign firm that becomes the day work. The remote chart usually keeps its money, because the native is at home and the fourth is not disturbed, and its weakness is the currency and the client’s country rather than the native’s, so that the reading of a remote worker’s income reads the seventh house for the client’s stability as much as the twelfth for the border. Whether the money comes home
Foreign income has two destinations, and the chart says which. It comes home when the twelfth lord sits in the second, the fourth or the eleventh, when the fourth lord is strong and in the fourth, and when the Moon is dignified, since the fourth and the Moon are home and the money returns to where the native’s home is: the twelfth lord in the fourth is the foreign earning that becomes the house in the home town, the classical NRI placement. It stays abroad when the second or eleventh lord sits in the twelfth, when the fourth lord sits in the twelfth, or when the twelfth lord sits in its own house with a weak fourth, since then the savings, the gains and the home itself are on the far side of the border. Neither is better; a native whose money stays abroad has often moved with it, and the reading of that question, whether the native themselves stays or returns, is in Stay Abroad or Return?. What matters for the money reading is that the two are not confused: a native told their foreign income will build a house at home, when their eleventh lord sits in the twelfth, will build it abroad and feel the reading failed.
What the foreign stream costs
The foreign income has costs the domestic one does not, and the twelfth carries them all: the expense of two countries, the tax of two systems, the currency that moves, the flight home for every family event, the money that is left behind when the native returns and the money that is lost in the conversion. A chart with a high twelfth in the ashtakavarga and a weak fourth pays these in full; a chart with the twelfth lord dignified and the second strong keeps most of what it earns; and the net reading, in against out, is the one to give. The nodes add their own cost: Rahu’s foreign income surges and reverses, and Ketu’s sub-period after Rahu’s is when the foreign arrangement ends, the client consolidating, the visa lapsing, the contract not renewed, which is the loss season of every foreign stream and is read with the others in Financial Loss Periods. The reading of a foreign stream that costs more than it earns is the twelfth lord weak with the money lords in the twelfth, and its native should be told, before the flight, that the chart earns abroad and does not keep, and that the keeping is a decision the chart cannot make for them.
When foreign income starts
Foreign income starts in the twelfth lord’s periods, the ninth lord’s, and Rahu’s, and in the sub-periods that pair one of those with a money lord: the twelfth lord with the eleventh lord for the foreign gain, with the second lord for the remittance kept, the ninth lord with the tenth lord for the salary abroad, Rahu with the seventh lord for the foreign client or partner, the third lord with the twelfth lord for the remote work. Jupiter’s transit over the twelfth, the ninth or the natal Rahu gives the year, and Jupiter over the twelfth in particular is the transit under which the foreign arrangement is signed, as often as it is the transit of expense. Saturn’s transit over the twelfth is the settling of the foreign obligation, the years in which the native pays for the border in order to earn across it. A worked chart: foreign clients, income at home
An Aries lagna chart, particulars altered, an ascendant for which Jupiter rules both the ninth and the twelfth, fortune and the foreign in one planet. Jupiter sits in Aquarius in the eleventh: the foreign lord on the house of gains, the plainest signature for income from abroad arriving as income. Mercury, lord of the third and sixth, sits in Aquarius with Jupiter: communication across distance and service, joined to the foreign lord in the gains house, the remote worker’s signature. Rahu sits in Gemini in the third, its dispositor that Mercury: the foreign door in the house of communication. Read the kinds. Not the salary abroad, since the tenth lord is at home in the seventh and the twelfth lord is not in the tenth; the remote work, since the third and seventh are joined to the foreign lord through Mercury with Jupiter in the eleventh and Rahu in the third disposited by that Mercury. Comes home: the twelfth lord in the eleventh rather than the twelfth, the fourth lord own in the fourth, the second lord on the tenth, and no money lord in the twelfth; the money earned across the border is kept on this side of it. The cost: Jupiter as twelfth lord in the eleventh spends the foreign gains on the foreign, travel and the clients’ countries, and the reading marked it as the one leak, a small one, the twelfth’s count in his chart being twenty-four.
