The 6th House: Employment
The 6th house governs service, daily work, employees, subordinates, and working for others. When this house is strong in relation to career matters, employment suits the person.

Comparing the Sub-Lords
The most direct comparison:
Examine the 6th cusp Sub-Lord. What houses does it signify? Does it support the 6th house matters (service, employment)?
Examine the 7th cusp Sub-Lord. What houses does it signify? Does it support the 7th house matters (business, partnerships)?
If the 6th cusp Sub-Lord has stronger favorable significations than the 7th cusp Sub-Lord, employment is better suited.
If the 7th cusp Sub-Lord has stronger favorable significations than the 6th cusp Sub-Lord, business is better suited.
If both are strong, the person may succeed in either or combine them (employed in a sales or partnership-heavy role, or running a business with employee-like discipline).
The 10th House as Context
The 10th house (career, profession) connects everything. Its Sub-Lord’s significations indicate the overall career direction.
10th cusp Sub-Lord signifying 6th more than 7th: Career is employment-oriented.
10th cusp Sub-Lord signifying 7th more than 6th: Career is business-oriented.
10th cusp Sub-Lord signifying both: Career may involve both or shift between them over life stages.
The 2nd house (income) and 11th house (gains) provide additional context. Does income flow more easily through employment channels (6th) or business channels (7th)?
Timing Job vs Business
People may shift between employment and business during different Dasha periods.
During Dasha periods activating the 6th house strongly, employment opportunities may be better. Taking or staying in a job during these periods makes sense.
During Dasha periods activating the 7th house strongly, business opportunities may emerge. Starting or expanding a business during these periods makes sense.

The 7th house governs both business and partnerships specifically. If the 7th is strong, you may do well in:

Check your 10th cusp Sub-Lord. Does it lean toward service (6th) or commerce (7th)?
Examine current Dasha. Which house is activated now?
Consider your actual experience. Have past employment or business attempts succeeded or struggled? The pattern often matches the chart.
Make decisions aligned with what the chart supports, modified by practical circumstances and personal preferences.
Combining Both
Modern careers often blur the job/business distinction:
Freelancing (employment-like work with business-like independence).

Government employment has its own indicators: Sun (government, authority), Saturn (public service, bureaucracy), and the 10th house (public standing). Government job is a specific form of employment with additional requirements beyond general 6th house strength.
