If the Mahadasha lord signifies 2, 10, and 11, the period is generally favorable for career growth.
If the Bhukti lord adds 6th house signification (maintaining employment) while supporting 10th and 11th, promotion during that sub-period is indicated.
When both Mahadasha and Bhukti lords activate the 2-6-10-11 combination, promotion probability peaks.
The 6th house is important because promotion means advancement within employment. Without 6th house activation, the 10th house success might manifest differently (through business, reputation, or authority outside employment).
The 10th Cusp Sub-Lord
The 10th cusp Sub-Lord indicates career promise generally. For promotion specifically:

Salary Hike Without Promotion
Sometimes salary increases come without title change. The 2nd and 11th houses (income, gains) activate without strong 10th house (status) activation.

For title promotion, the 10th house must be activated alongside the income houses.

If you know a favorable Dasha period is operating, you can use it strategically:

Job Changes for Advancement
Sometimes promotion requires changing jobs. The current employer does not offer advancement, but another employer does.
Job change involves 3rd house (change, movement) alongside career houses. A period signifying 3rd, 6th, 10th, and 11th together may indicate advancement through changing employers.
If your chart shows career advancement but your current role offers no path, the advancement may manifest through transition rather than internal promotion.
