The 7th lord in the 7th house is partnership handled where it belongs. Marriage, business partnership, trade and the public are all governed in the house that owns them, by the planet that rules it, with nothing routed elsewhere. This is the most self-contained version of the relational function a chart produces.
It is also the only page in this series where every ascendant holds a sign dignity. Elsewhere the 7th lord’s dignity varies with the house, and on one page there is none at all. Here all twelve get own sign by definition, six land in moolatrikona, one lands exalted, and two gain directional strength.
This page belongs to the 7th lord in all 12 houses guide. For how house lords are read at all, see the house lords complete guide.

What this page will not do
The limits set out on the 7th lord in the 1st house page apply throughout this series and matter particularly here, because a strong 7th lord in its own house is the configuration most likely to be over-read in the favourable direction.
This site issues no verdicts about anybody’s marriage: whether it happens, when, whether it lasts, or anything about a partner’s character or conduct. A well placed 7th lord does not guarantee a marriage, a good one, or a lasting one. It describes a relational function operating without interference, which is a different and narrower claim.
The 7th is also a maraka house in the classical scheme. That is a traditional association and this site draws no longevity conclusions from it, for anybody.
Find your 7th lord
The 7th lord is the planet ruling the seventh sign from your ascendant. Aries has Libra, so Venus. Taurus has Scorpio, so Mars. Gemini has Sagittarius, so Jupiter. Cancer has Capricorn, so Saturn. Leo has Aquarius, also Saturn. Virgo has Pisces, so Jupiter. Libra has Aries, so Mars. Scorpio has Taurus, so Venus. Sagittarius has Gemini, so Mercury. Capricorn has Cancer, so the Moon. Aquarius has Leo, so the Sun. Pisces has Virgo, so Mercury.
If that planet sits in your 7th house, this page is your placement. The kundali calculator gives the ascendant and every house position from the Swiss Ephemeris.
Why every ascendant gets own sign
A house lord is by definition the planet ruling the sign that falls in that house, so putting the 7th lord in the 7th house necessarily places it in the sign it rules, whatever the ascendant. Twelve of the 144 lord-and-house combinations work this way, and the pattern is identical in each: all twelve ascendants get own sign, exactly six land in moolatrikona, and exactly one lands exalted, which is always Mercury in Virgo. For the 7th lord that exaltation falls on Pisces ascendant. The same structure is set out on the 4th lord in the 4th house page.
Own sign therefore distinguishes nobody here. What separates the twelve is moolatrikona, the single exaltation, directional strength, the second house the planet rules, and whether kendradhipati dosha applies.
One contrast is worth drawing, since it sits at the opposite end of this series. On the 7th lord in the 1st house page no ascendant holds any sign dignity whatsoever, because a lord placed in the 1st occupies the sign directly opposite the one it rules, and no planet is exalted or owns the sign opposite its own. That page is distinguished entirely by directional strength and lordship. This one is the reverse: every ascendant holds own sign, and dignity is doing as much work here as it does anywhere in the cluster.
The placement itself
The first thing this placement does is give partnership its own department. The relational function is not routed through the home, the finances, the profession or anything else, so it operates on its own terms and its condition does not immediately contaminate other areas of the life.
The second is that these natives are straightforwardly good at partnership. Not lucky in it, which is a different claim, but competent: they understand what an arrangement between two people requires and they supply it.
The third is that the public is met directly. Clients, customers and audiences are dealt with as the primary business rather than as an extension of something else, which suits any occupation where that is the work.
The fourth is that the partner is a genuine counterpart rather than an accessory to some other project. These natives choose people who are their own centre of gravity, and they are generally content to be met on those terms.
The fifth is that the relational capacity is not obviously derived from anything. There is no home, no career and no creative project shaping how these natives partner, which makes them harder to read and, occasionally, harder to influence.
All twelve ascendants
Every ascendant has the 7th lord in its own sign here, so the table shows what varies: which planet, whether moolatrikona or exaltation applies, whether directional strength is present, and what else the planet rules. Saturn takes its digbala in the 7th.
| Ascendant | 7th sign | 7th lord | Dignity | Digbala | Also rules |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | Libra | Venus | own sign, moolatrikona | no | 2nd |
| Taurus | Scorpio | Mars | own sign | no | 12th |
| Gemini | Sagittarius | Jupiter | own sign, moolatrikona | no | 10th |
| Cancer | Capricorn | Saturn | own sign | yes | 8th |
| Leo | Aquarius | Saturn | own sign, moolatrikona | yes | 6th |
| Virgo | Pisces | Jupiter | own sign | no | 4th |
| Libra | Aries | Mars | own sign, moolatrikona | no | 2nd |
| Scorpio | Taurus | Venus | own sign | no | 12th |
| Sagittarius | Gemini | Mercury | own sign | no | 10th |
| Capricorn | Cancer | Moon | own sign | no | only the 7th |
| Aquarius | Leo | Sun | own sign, moolatrikona | no | only the 7th |
| Pisces | Virgo | Mercury | exalted, own sign, moolatrikona | no | 4th |
Pisces ascendant has the strongest dignity. Mercury in Virgo holds own sign, exaltation and moolatrikona simultaneously, which occurs nowhere else since Virgo is the only sign where all three coincide. Kendradhipati dosha applies, since Mercury rules the 7th and 4th, both kendras, and it is held to affect Mercury least of the three benefics. Three dignities against a mild qualification is a comfortable balance, and this produces natives who handle partnership with unusual precision and discrimination.
Leo ascendant is the strongest by combined factors. Saturn is in Aquarius, its own sign and moolatrikona, and gains directional strength since the 7th is Saturn’s own quarter. Two dignities plus digbala, and Saturn is the planet most suited to the 7th’s business of sustained agreement between two parties. Saturn also rules the 6th here, which is why Leo appears in the Harsha Yoga exclusions. What this produces is a partnership formed slowly and held indefinitely.
Cancer also gains directional strength, Saturn in Capricorn operating at full effect, with the 8th as its second lordship adding depth to the arrangement.
Six ascendants land in moolatrikona: Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Aquarius and Pisces. Moolatrikona is a degree-based condition, so whether your own planet falls within that portion of the sign is worth checking.
Capricorn and Aquarius carry no second lordship, the Moon and Sun ruling one sign each. For Aquarius the Sun is in its own sign and moolatrikona with nothing competing, which is the cleanest configuration on the page and the only one combining moolatrikona with a single lordship and no dosha.
Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces carry kendradhipati dosha through their 7th lord, as throughout this series. Here it meets strong dignity in every case, and a planet in own sign is not meaningfully diminished by a lordship consideration.
Aries and Libra carry the 2nd, Taurus and Scorpio the 12th, Gemini and Sagittarius the 10th, Virgo and Pisces the 4th, Cancer the 8th, and Leo the 6th.
Where it strains
Partnership has no support from elsewhere. This is the specific cost of the own-house version. Where the 7th lord sits in another house, that house lends the relationship something: a home, a shared project, a family, a working life. Here nothing does. The arrangement stands on itself, which is clean while it works and offers nothing to fall back on when it does not.
Competence is not the same as attachment. These natives are good at partnership as a discipline, which can operate somewhat independently of how they feel about the particular person. Others occasionally find them expert and unreachable at once.
The relationship is expected to justify itself. With no other house involved, there is no separate reason for the arrangement to continue, and these natives assess it on its own terms more relentlessly than people whose partnership is entangled with a house, a business or a family.
Being met as a counterpart is demanding. Choosing partners who are their own centre of gravity produces relationships between two independent people, which is admirable and requires more negotiation than the alternative.
Career and work
The natural fit is work where the relationship or the transaction is the entire product. Trade and commerce in the direct sense, brokerage, agency, representation, and dealing on behalf of others.
Professional partnerships suit these natives, and unlike several placements in this series they are equally capable working alone with the public, since the relational function does not depend on a co-principal.
Client-facing advisory work fits, particularly where the engagement is long and the relationship carries the value.
Diplomacy, negotiation and liaison follow the 7th’s significations directly.
The second lordship shapes direction. Gemini and Sagittarius have the 10th, making partnership the profession. Aries and Libra have the 2nd, connecting it to earning. Virgo and Pisces have the 4th, suiting practice from a domestic base. Taurus and Scorpio have the 12th, suiting foreign trade. Leo has the 6th and Cancer the 8th.
Health
This placement concentrates the 7th’s regions, the lower abdomen and pelvic region, without routing them elsewhere.
The practical content is ordinary. Anything persistent belongs with a doctor rather than a chart. This site does not predict illness or longevity from placements, and the 7th’s maraka classification is a traditional association rather than a forecast.
The observation that does belong is that a strong 7th lord in its own house tends to produce natives who are attentive to their partner’s wellbeing and comparatively inattentive to their own, since the house is occupied with the other person by definition. That is worth naming because it is a structural blind spot rather than a personal failing.
When it activates
These themes come forward during the 7th lord’s mahadasha, antardasha and pratyantardasha, with the mahadasha carrying the weight. For a kendra lord in its own sign in its own house, those periods generally bring partnership and public matters forward strongly.
Marriage timing is still not decided by this placement, and that bears repeating precisely because the configuration looks decisive. It is read from the 7th house and its lord with Venus, the Navamsa and the dasha sequence, and in KP through the 7th cusp sub-lord.
The strongest windows come when the 7th lord runs alongside the 2nd or 11th lord, which are the houses KP requires for marriage to take place.
Jupiter transiting the natal 7th lord or the 7th house tends to bring partnership opportunities. Saturn over the same points tests the arrangement, which for this placement is the transit that supplies the resistance nothing else in the configuration provides.
The KP layer
Krishnamurti Paddhati adds timing precision through the sub-lord, stated here as a separate layer rather than mixed into the Parashari reading above.
The distinction matters more here than on any other page in this series. A 7th lord in its own sign in its own house with an unsupportive 7th cusp sub-lord is a common and genuinely confusing configuration: everything about the Parashari picture says the partnership function is strong, and the specific event does not materialise. That is not a contradiction, it is two systems answering different questions.
In KP marriage is decided by the 7th cusp sub-lord signifying the 2nd, 7th and 11th. The house placement of the 7th lord does not substitute for that analysis, however strong it looks. The KP marriage timing method sets out the framework, and the sub-lord theory guide covers the mechanics.
Common misreadings
Own sign distinguishes nobody here. Every ascendant has it by definition. What separates the twelve is moolatrikona, the single exaltation, directional strength, the second lordship and the dosha.
A strong 7th lord does not guarantee marriage. It describes a relational function operating without interference. Whether a marriage happens is a separate question, and in KP a different calculation entirely.
Self-contained is not the same as supported. The partnership stands on itself here, which means it has nothing to fall back on. That is the real cost of the own-house version and it is easy to miss behind the strong dignity.
Kendradhipati meets strong dignity here. Four ascendants carry the dosha and all four hold at least own sign, so the qualification is doing very little work on this page.
Questions people ask
Is the 7th lord in the 7th house good?
Yes, and it starts from a high floor since the lord is in its own sign for every ascendant, in a kendra, with dignity available in a way it is nowhere else in this series. It produces genuine competence at partnership. The specific cost is that the arrangement stands on itself and has nothing external supporting it.
Which ascendant has the strongest version?
Pisces by dignity, with Mercury holding own sign, exaltation and moolatrikona at once. Leo by combined factors, with Saturn in own sign and moolatrikona plus directional strength, which suits the 7th’s business better than any other planet. Aquarius has the cleanest configuration, with the Sun in moolatrikona ruling nothing else and carrying no dosha.
Does this guarantee a good marriage?
No. It describes the relational function operating on its own terms without interference from other areas of life, which is a narrower claim than it sounds. Whether a marriage happens, and what it is like, depends on the whole chart and on a great deal that is not astrological.
Why does my relationship feel like it has no safety net?
Because it does not have one in the chart. Where the 7th lord sits in another house, that house lends the partnership something to rest on. Here nothing does, so the arrangement is assessed purely on itself, which is clean and unforgiving in equal measure.
Why do people say I am good with people but hard to reach?
Because competence at partnership and attachment to a particular person are separable here, and you have the first in unusual measure. The observation is generally offered as a compliment and a complaint at the same time.
My 7th lord is strong but I am not married. Why?
Because Parashari strength and KP event timing answer different questions. A well placed 7th lord describes a functioning relational capacity. Whether a marriage takes place is decided in KP by the 7th cusp sub-lord signifying the 2nd, 7th and 11th, which is a separate calculation that a strong placement does not substitute for.
When will this placement give results?
During the 7th lord’s mahadasha, antardasha and pratyantardasha. Windows pairing the 7th lord with the 2nd or 11th lord are the ones that matter for marriage specifically.
Want this read in your own chart?
Own sign is the floor, not the answer. What decides delivery is the exact degree, whether the planet falls in its moolatrikona portion, anything conjoined or aspecting it, the second house it rules, the 7th cusp sub-lord, and which dasha you are running.
