The 10th lord in the 7th house routes career, standing and public action through partnership, marriage, trade and the wider public. The work happens between people here: these natives operate through a counterpart rather than alone, and their professional life is built on arrangements with somebody rather than on positions held by themselves.
Both houses are kendras, which makes this strong by structure. Two ascendants land exalted, two hold own sign with a doubling, two gain directional strength, three carry a yogakaraka, and one lands debilitated.
This page belongs to the 10th lord in all 12 houses guide. For how house lords are read at all, see the house lords complete guide.

What this page will not do
The 7th governs marriage, and the limits that apply throughout this cluster apply here.
This site issues no verdicts about anybody’s marriage: whether it happens, when, whether it lasts, or anything concerning a partner’s character, conduct or fidelity. A chart describes tendencies in the person whose chart it is and is not evidence about anybody else.
The 7th also carries a maraka classification in the classical scheme. That describes a house’s traditional associations rather than an event, and this site draws no longevity conclusions from it, for the native or for anybody in their life.
Find your 10th lord
The 10th lord is the planet ruling the tenth sign from your ascendant. Aries has Capricorn, so Saturn. Taurus has Aquarius, also Saturn. Gemini has Pisces, so Jupiter. Cancer has Aries, so Mars. Leo has Taurus, so Venus. Virgo has Gemini, so Mercury. Libra has Cancer, so the Moon. Scorpio has Leo, so the Sun. Sagittarius has Virgo, so Mercury. Capricorn has Libra, so Venus. Aquarius has Scorpio, so Mars. Pisces has Sagittarius, so Jupiter.
If that planet sits in your 7th house, this page is your placement. The kundali calculator gives the ascendant and every house position from the Swiss Ephemeris.
Two angular houses
The kendras are the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th, and they carry the structural weight of a chart. A kendra lord in a kendra is strong by position before any question of dignity arises, and this page has both houses angular.
The 1st and 7th form the axis of self and other; the 4th and 10th the axis of base and action. Placing the lord of action into the house of the other joins two of those four points, and what it produces is a working life conducted through counterparts.
That is structural rather than merely sociable, since these natives do not function well as a sole operator and are not meant to. The partner, the client, the counterparty or the public is where the work actually happens, and a role that removes them removes the mechanism.
The 10th is also an upachaya house, so standing accumulates while the 7th does not compound in the same way. What that produces over decades is a native whose professional reputation outgrows any particular arrangement they made, which is usually visible in a succession of partnerships rather than one.
The placement itself
The first thing this placement does is make the career relational. Work arrives through arrangements, and these natives spend their professional lives negotiating rather than executing.
The second is that they are publicly legible. The 7th is the house of the wider world, so what these natives do is visible and understood by people outside their field.
The third is that business partnership is the characteristic form, which the section below covers.
The fourth is that professional dealings and personal ones interweave. Clients become friends, a spouse becomes involved in the work, and the boundary these natives maintain is thinner than most.
The fifth is that they read people well. A kendra lord in the house of the other produces natives who know what a counterpart wants before it is stated, which is an advantage and occasionally a substitute for asking.
All twelve ascendants
The 10th lord is a different planet for every ascendant and lands in a different sign here. Every row below is computed rather than quoted. Saturn takes its directional strength in the 7th.
| Ascendant | 10th sign | 10th lord | Sits in | Dignity | Digbala | Yogakaraka | Also rules |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | Capricorn | Saturn | Libra | exalted | yes | no | 11th |
| Taurus | Aquarius | Saturn | Scorpio | neutral | yes | yes | 9th |
| Gemini | Pisces | Jupiter | Sagittarius | own sign, moolatrikona | no | no | 7th |
| Cancer | Aries | Mars | Capricorn | exalted | no | yes | 5th |
| Leo | Taurus | Venus | Aquarius | neutral | no | no | 3rd |
| Virgo | Gemini | Mercury | Pisces | debilitated | no | no | 1st |
| Libra | Cancer | Moon | Aries | neutral | no | no | only the 10th |
| Scorpio | Leo | Sun | Taurus | neutral | no | no | only the 10th |
| Sagittarius | Virgo | Mercury | Gemini | own sign | no | no | 7th |
| Capricorn | Libra | Venus | Cancer | neutral | no | yes | 5th |
| Aquarius | Scorpio | Mars | Leo | neutral | no | no | 3rd |
| Pisces | Sagittarius | Jupiter | Virgo | neutral | no | no | 1st |
Cancer ascendant is the strongest of the twelve. Mars is exalted in Capricorn and is the yogakaraka for this ascendant, ruling the 5th alongside the 10th. An exalted yogakaraka is the strongest single combination available to any lord, and because that planet rules a trikona as well as a kendra, the Raja Yoga condition is met inside it. Mars exalted in the house of dealings makes these natives formidable counterparties rather than agreeable ones.
Aries holds the other exaltation with directional strength. Saturn is exalted in Libra, gains digbala in the 7th, and rules the 11th alongside the 10th. Exaltation and directional strength together is the second strongest arrangement on the page, and it produces a professional life of durable, patiently constructed arrangements.
Taurus carries yogakaraka status with directional strength, Saturn in Scorpio, ruling the 9th as well. Neutral dignity understates this: the most valuable planet in the chart, operating at full effect.
Gemini and Sagittarius hold own sign with a doubling. For both the 10th lord also rules the 7th, so one planet governs the profession and the house it is conducted in: Jupiter in Sagittarius for Gemini, which is also moolatrikona, and Mercury in Gemini for Sagittarius.
These are also the two ascendants where kendradhipati dosha applies, since the planet rules two kendras and no trikona. Both facts hold at once. Strong dignity substantially offsets the qualification, and Gemini’s Jupiter in own sign and moolatrikona is not meaningfully diminished by it.
Capricorn carries the yogakaraka at neutral dignity, Venus in Cancer, ruling the 5th as well.
Virgo ascendant is the one debilitation. Mercury falls in Pisces, its debilitation sign, which is the 7th from Virgo, and Mercury also rules the 1st here, so the lord of self and profession together arrives compromised. Mercury supplies definition and Pisces dissolves it, so what this commonly describes is a native whose professional arrangements are never quite pinned down: goodwill is genuine and the terms are vague. Check for neecha bhanga and note where Jupiter sits as dispositor.
Libra and Scorpio carry no second lordship, the Moon and Sun ruling one sign each, giving the cleanest readings in this series.
Business partnership
The 7th governs partnership in the commercial sense as much as the marital one, and this placement makes it the characteristic professional form.
What it describes is a working life built with somebody: a firm with a co-founder, a practice in partnership, an agency relationship, or a business whose whole model is representing one party to another.
These natives are generally better in that structure than alone, which is worth knowing before spending years attempting the solo version. The counterpart is not a compromise on independence, it is the mechanism through which the work happens.
The practical caution is ordinary and worth stating. Where a professional life rests on arrangements, the terms of those arrangements matter more than they do for other people, and these natives are inclined to rely on understanding rather than documentation because they read counterparts well. Getting the terms in writing at the outset is the specific correction, and it is easiest at exactly the point when it feels least necessary. Nothing here is legal or financial advice.
Marriage
Within the limits set out at the top of this page, what this placement describes is worth stating.
The characteristic pattern is that the marriage and the working life are connected: a spouse involved in the business, a partner met through professional life, or a household organised around a career in a way both parties treat as a joint undertaking.
What follows honestly from that is a specific vulnerability. Where the same relationship carries both the personal and the commercial weight, a difficulty in either arrives in both at once, and there is no separate ground to stand on while it is resolved. That is a real structural feature rather than a prediction, and couples in this position who keep the two sets of arrangements formally distinct tend to find it easier.
What the placement does not describe is a specific partner, a timing, or an outcome. Whether a marriage happens is read from the 7th house and its lord together with Venus, the Navamsa and the dasha sequence, and in KP through the 7th cusp sub-lord, which is a separate calculation from anything on this page.
Where it strains
Nothing proceeds without a counterpart. Where the work happens between people, a period without the right partner is a period without a mechanism, and that dependence is structural rather than a failure of self-reliance.
The boundary is thin. Professional and personal relationships interweave here, which is efficient and means a falling-out costs twice what it would for somebody who kept them separate.
Reading people substitutes for asking them. These natives know what a counterpart wants and act on it, which works until the reading is wrong and nobody has said anything that could be checked against.
Standing outgrows arrangements. The 10th accumulates and the 7th does not, so a partnership that fitted at thirty frequently does not at fifty, and the ending is rarely anybody’s fault.
Career and work
The natural fit is any profession conducted between parties. Law, particularly advocacy and negotiation, agency work, brokerage, and representation of any kind.
Consultancy and client-facing professional practice suit this placement directly, since the client relationship is the work rather than the wrapping around it.
Trade and commerce follow the 7th’s older signification, including import and export and anything conducted across a counterparty.
Diplomacy, mediation and arbitration recur, since these natives are equipped to hold two positions at once.
Partnership businesses of every kind fit, and these natives are frequently the outward-facing principal.
The friction is with roles requiring solitary work, which these natives find slow and unrewarding in a way that surprises them.
The second lordship shapes direction. Cancer and Capricorn have the 5th with yogakaraka status. Taurus has the 9th, also with yogakaraka status. Gemini and Sagittarius have the 7th doubled. Virgo and Pisces have the 1st, Leo and Aquarius the 3rd, Aries the 11th.
Health
This placement links the 7th’s regions, the lower abdomen and pelvic region, with the 10th’s, the knees and joints.
The practical content is ordinary. Knee and joint complaints warrant attention rather than tolerance, and anything persistent belongs with a doctor. This site does not predict illness or longevity from any placement, and the 7th’s maraka classification is a traditional association rather than a forecast.
The observation that does belong is favourable, which is not always the case in this cluster. These natives work alongside people continuously, which means somebody is usually positioned to notice a change and say so. That is a genuine advantage over placements that direct the working life inward, and the correction is simply to treat such an observation as information rather than as concern to be waved off.
When it activates
These themes come forward during the 10th lord’s mahadasha, antardasha and pratyantardasha, with the mahadasha carrying the weight. For Taurus, Cancer and Capricorn these are among the most consequential periods in the sequence, since the planet is the yogakaraka. The 10th being an upachaya house, later periods deliver more.
These periods characteristically bring arrangements: a partnership formed or dissolved, a significant client relationship, a business established with somebody, or a professional move made jointly.
The strongest windows come when the 10th lord runs alongside a trikona lord, satisfying the Raja Yoga condition, or the 11th lord, which converts arrangements into gains.
Jupiter transiting the natal 10th lord or the 7th house tends to bring partnership opportunities. Saturn over the same points tests the arrangement and formalises it, which is uncomfortable and generally leaves the terms clearer.
The KP layer
Krishnamurti Paddhati adds timing precision through the sub-lord, stated here as a separate layer rather than mixed into the Parashari reading above.
Professional matters are read in KP through the 10th cusp sub-lord signifying the 2nd, 6th, 10th and 11th, and the 7th is not among the required houses. Marriage is decided by the 7th cusp sub-lord signifying the 2nd, 7th and 11th, which is a separate calculation again, and the 10th lord’s house placement forms no part of it.
So a configuration that joins profession and partnership in Parashari terms is answered by two different cusps in KP, neither of them by this placement. KP uses neither Raja Yoga, yogakaraka status nor kendradhipati dosha. The KP marriage timing method sets out that framework and the sub-lord theory guide covers the mechanics.
Common misreadings
Working through others is not dependence. Both houses are kendras and the placement is strong by structure. The counterpart is the mechanism through which the work happens rather than a limitation on it.
It does not promise a business partnership or a marriage. The placement describes the characteristic form a professional life takes. Whether either occurs depends on a great deal that no placement determines.
Kendradhipati and strong dignity coexist. Gemini and Sagittarius carry the dosha and hold own sign. The qualification does not meaningfully diminish a planet at that dignity.
Maraka classification is not a prediction. The 7th carries that traditional association and it licenses no statement about lifespan for anybody.
Questions people ask
Is the 10th lord in the 7th house good?
Yes. Both houses are kendras, so it is strong by structure, and it produces a working life conducted through counterparts: partnerships, clients and negotiated arrangements. The strain is that nothing proceeds without the right counterpart, which is a structural dependence rather than a failing.
Which ascendant has the strongest version?
Cancer, with Mars exalted and carrying yogakaraka status. Aries is next, with Saturn exalted and gaining directional strength together. Gemini holds own sign and moolatrikona with a doubling, subject to the kendradhipati qualification that strong dignity largely offsets.
Should I go into business with a partner?
The configuration inclines strongly toward it and these natives are generally better in that structure than alone. The specific caution is documentation: you read counterparts well and are therefore inclined to rely on understanding rather than terms, and terms are easiest to agree at the point when they feel least necessary.
Why can I not get anything moving on my own?
Because the work happens between people rather than inside you, so a solo effort removes the mechanism rather than merely the company. That is worth designing around instead of treating as a discipline problem.
Why did a partnership that worked for years stop working?
Because the 10th accumulates and the 7th does not, so your standing outgrows arrangements over time. An arrangement that fitted at thirty frequently does not at fifty, and the ending is rarely anybody’s fault.
My spouse is involved in my business. Is that a problem?
It is the characteristic pattern here rather than a problem in itself. The structural feature worth knowing is that one relationship then carries both the personal and the commercial weight, so a difficulty in either arrives in both at once. Keeping the two sets of arrangements formally distinct makes that considerably easier to handle.
When will this placement give results?
During the 10th lord’s mahadasha, antardasha and pratyantardasha, which tend to bring partnerships and significant arrangements. Windows pairing the 10th lord with the 11th lord convert them into gains.
Want this read in your own chart?
Whether your 10th lord is a yogakaraka, whether kendradhipati applies, and what dignity it holds decide what this placement is worth. What settles delivery is the exact degree, anything conjoined or aspecting it, and which dasha you are running.
