The 10th lord in the 11th house routes career, standing and public action through gains, income, friends and networks. This is where professional standing becomes a return: the work converts, the position pays, and the reputation reaches people who can do something with it.
Both houses are upachaya, so both compound with application. One ascendant holds own sign and moolatrikona with a doubling, three carry a yogakaraka, and one lands debilitated.
This page belongs to the 10th lord in all 12 houses guide. For how house lords are read at all, see the house lords complete guide.

Find your 10th lord
The 10th lord is the planet ruling the tenth sign from your ascendant. Aries has Capricorn, so Saturn. Taurus has Aquarius, also Saturn. Gemini has Pisces, so Jupiter. Cancer has Aries, so Mars. Leo has Taurus, so Venus. Virgo has Gemini, so Mercury. Libra has Cancer, so the Moon. Scorpio has Leo, so the Sun. Sagittarius has Virgo, so Mercury. Capricorn has Libra, so Venus. Aquarius has Scorpio, so Mars. Pisces has Sagittarius, so Jupiter.
If that planet sits in your 11th house, this page is your placement. The kundali calculator gives the ascendant and every house position from the Swiss Ephemeris.
Where standing becomes a return
A distinction runs through this entire series and it resolves here. The 10th describes action and standing rather than income. What a person does and is known for is the 10th’s business, and whether it converts into anything is a separate question.
Most pages in this series therefore carry a version of the same caution: check whether anything connects the 10th lord to the 11th, because standing with no such route stays as reputation. The 10th lord in the 10th house page makes that point most sharply, since a self-contained 10th supplies a position and not necessarily a result.
This is the placement where the connection already exists. The lord of the profession occupies labha bhava, the house of gain, whose function is that something reaches a person and stays. The career pays, the position converts, and the recognition arrives from people in a position to act on it.
Both houses also reward time. The 10th and 11th are both upachaya, so the compounding is genuine and slow, and these natives are substantially better off at fifty than their thirties would have suggested. That is the same double upachaya structure the 10th lord in the 3rd house page describes, with a different subject: there the accumulation is capability, here it is return.
The placement itself
The first thing this placement does is make the career productive rather than merely respectable. What these natives build turns into something they hold.
The second is that professional advancement comes through people. Introductions, recommendations and being known to the right person, rather than through applications and processes.
The third is that the network is professional in character. Friendships and working relationships are the same set, and these natives socialise largely within their field.
The fourth is that ambition is explicit. The 11th wants, and the lord of standing placed there produces natives who are frank about wanting more and unembarrassed by it.
The fifth is that older colleagues matter, which the section below covers.
All twelve ascendants
The 10th lord is a different planet for every ascendant and lands in a different sign here. Every row below is computed rather than quoted. No ascendant lands exalted or gains directional strength on this page.
| Ascendant | 10th sign | 10th lord | Sits in | Dignity | Yogakaraka | Also rules |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aries | Capricorn | Saturn | Aquarius | own sign, moolatrikona | no | 11th |
| Taurus | Aquarius | Saturn | Pisces | neutral | yes | 9th |
| Gemini | Pisces | Jupiter | Aries | neutral | no | 7th |
| Cancer | Aries | Mars | Taurus | neutral | yes | 5th |
| Leo | Taurus | Venus | Gemini | neutral | no | 3rd |
| Virgo | Gemini | Mercury | Cancer | neutral | no | 1st |
| Libra | Cancer | Moon | Leo | neutral | no | only the 10th |
| Scorpio | Leo | Sun | Virgo | neutral | no | only the 10th |
| Sagittarius | Virgo | Mercury | Libra | neutral | no | 7th |
| Capricorn | Libra | Venus | Scorpio | neutral | yes | 5th |
| Aquarius | Scorpio | Mars | Sagittarius | neutral | no | 3rd |
| Pisces | Sagittarius | Jupiter | Capricorn | debilitated | no | 1st |
Aries ascendant is the strongest of the twelve. Saturn rules both the 10th and the 11th and sits in Aquarius, its own sign and its moolatrikona, which is the 11th house itself. One planet governs the profession and the gains from it, well placed in one of the two houses it owns, so the whole conversion from work to return is handled by a single well-dignified planet.
Saturn’s temperament matters here. This is slow, structural accumulation rather than quick gain, and the returns arrive on a schedule that would frustrate anybody expecting otherwise. What it produces over a career is substantial and it is not fast.
Taurus, Cancer and Capricorn carry the yogakaraka at neutral dignity, Saturn in Pisces, Mars in Taurus and Venus in Scorpio. Yogakaraka status is a lordship condition and holds regardless of sign, so for these three the most valuable planet in the chart sits in the house where value accrues, which is among the most useful positions it can occupy.
Because a yogakaraka rules a kendra and a trikona together, these three natives carry Raja Yoga in a single planet, and here it is placed where its results become gains rather than remaining standing.
Pisces ascendant is the one debilitation. Jupiter falls in Capricorn, its debilitation sign, which is the 11th from Pisces, and Jupiter also rules the 1st here, so the lord of self and profession together arrives compromised. Jupiter expands and Capricorn restricts, so what this commonly describes is a native whose professional returns are consistently narrower than the work warrants: the standing is real and the conversion is tight. Check for neecha bhanga and note where Saturn sits as dispositor.
Gemini and Sagittarius carry kendradhipati dosha through their 10th lord, as throughout this series, with the full treatment on the 10th lord in the 1st house page.
Virgo and Pisces carry the 1st, which is a trikona as well as a kendra, so the Raja Yoga condition is satisfied inside the planet for them.
Libra and Scorpio carry no second lordship, the Moon and Sun ruling one sign each, giving the cleanest readings in this series.
Networks and elders
The 11th governs friends, associations and elder siblings, so this placement brings the professional life into that territory.
The commonest pattern is that the network and the career are the same thing. These natives are known within their field rather than merely employed in it, and the relationships that advance them are ones they would describe as friendships.
A second pattern is advancement through an older colleague. Somebody a few years ahead who opens a door, recommends the native, or brings them along, and this recurs across a working life rather than happening once.
A third is participation in professional bodies, industry groups and associations, which suits this placement more than any other in the series.
Two qualifications. A chart establishes nothing about a colleague’s or a sibling’s conduct or circumstances, and this site makes no predictions about any third party who has not consulted anyone.
Where it strains
Enough does not arrive. The 11th meets a want and produces the next one, and a professional lord placed there funds the cycle rather than closing it. More success does not settle the question, because the same mechanism generates it.
Advancement depends on the circle. Where progress comes through introduction, a period without the right people is a period without doors, and that dependence is structural rather than a failure of merit.
There is no non-professional life. Friendships and working relationships being the same set is efficient and means a professional falling-out removes friends, and a change of field removes the social world with it.
The returns are slow before they are large. Double upachaya loads the reward at the far end, so someone at thirty is comparing an unremarkable position against peers on faster tracks. That comparison is accurate and tells you nothing about where this ends.
Career and work
The natural fit is any profession where being known within a field is the mechanism of advancement. Senior professional practice, industry roles, and anything where reputation among peers determines what comes next.
Business and commerce suit this placement directly, the 11th governing gains and the 10th the enterprise that produces them.
Roles in professional bodies, trade associations and industry organisations recur strongly.
Sales, business development and any function whose measure is what it brings in fit the combination.
Corporate leadership at the level where the network is the job appears frequently, since these natives are effective at converting relationships into results.
The second lordship shapes direction. Aries has the 11th doubled with own sign and moolatrikona, the strongest configuration here. Taurus has the 9th, Cancer and Capricorn the 5th, all three with yogakaraka status. Gemini and Sagittarius have the 7th, Virgo and Pisces the 1st, Leo and Aquarius the 3rd.
Health
This placement links the 11th’s regions, the shins, ankles and left ear, with the 10th’s, the knees and joints, which makes the lower leg the area of attention.
The practical content is ordinary. Knee, shin and ankle complaints warrant attention rather than tolerance, and anything persistent belongs with a doctor. This site does not predict illness or longevity from any placement.
The observation that does belong is favourable, which is not always the case in this cluster. These natives are surrounded by colleagues who are also friends, which means somebody is generally positioned to notice a change and comfortable enough to mention it. That is a real advantage over configurations that direct the working life inward. The correction is only to treat such a remark as information rather than as something to reassure away, since the ambition described above makes deflecting it the natural response.
When it activates
These themes come forward during the 10th lord’s mahadasha, antardasha and pratyantardasha, with the mahadasha carrying the weight. For Taurus, Cancer and Capricorn these are among the most consequential periods in the sequence, since the planet is the yogakaraka. With both houses upachaya, later periods deliver considerably more.
These periods characteristically bring arrival rather than merely opportunity: a position that pays properly, a business reaching profitability, an introduction that leads somewhere, or accumulated standing converting into a return.
That is what distinguishes this placement from most others in the series, where the 10th lord’s periods bring standing and require a separate window for anything to land.
The strongest windows come when the 10th lord runs alongside a trikona lord, satisfying the Raja Yoga condition, or the 2nd lord, for gains to be retained rather than spent.
Jupiter transiting the natal 10th lord or the 11th house expands both the network and what comes through it. Saturn over the same points prunes both, which is uncomfortable and generally leaves the position sounder.
The KP layer
Krishnamurti Paddhati adds timing precision through the sub-lord, stated here as a separate layer rather than mixed into the Parashari reading above.
This is the closest alignment in the series. KP reads professional matters through the 10th cusp sub-lord signifying the 2nd, 6th, 10th and 11th, so the 11th is a required house rather than an optional one, and the 11th is the confirming house for almost every positive outcome in KP generally. A configuration joining the 10th and 11th is working with the framework rather than across it.
The alignment is not a shortcut, since the cusp sub-lord is determined by the exact degree of the cusp rather than by any house placement. KP uses neither Raja Yoga, yogakaraka status nor kendradhipati dosha. The sub-lord theory guide covers the mechanics.
Common misreadings
Conversion is not amount. The placement describes standing becoming a return. It establishes no figure, and no chart determines financial outcomes.
Slow early returns are the mechanism. Both houses reward time, so thirty is the least informative point at which to judge this configuration.
A yogakaraka in the 11th is well placed and not a Raja Yoga by position. The 11th is not a trikona. What these three ascendants have is the most valuable planet in the chart sitting where value accrues.
This says nothing about your colleagues. The placement describes how your professional life and your circle relate. It establishes nothing about anybody else.
Questions people ask
Is the 10th lord in the 11th house good?
Yes, and it is the position in this series where standing most reliably becomes a return. The 10th supplies the career and the 11th is where it converts into something you keep. Both houses reward time, so it compounds. The strain is that the 11th generates the next want as fast as it meets the last one.
Which ascendant has the strongest version?
Aries, with Saturn ruling both the 10th and the 11th and sitting in Aquarius in own sign and moolatrikona, so one well-dignified planet handles the whole conversion. Taurus, Cancer and Capricorn carry yogakaraka status, which is a different kind of strength.
Does this mean I will be wealthy?
It means your professional standing tends to convert into something you keep, which is the mechanism rather than the amount. No chart determines financial outcomes, and nothing here is financial advice.
Why does everything come through who I know?
Because your professional lord sits in the house of the network, so introduction is the channel rather than application. That is efficient and means a period without the right circle is a period without doors.
Why does achieving more never settle anything?
Because the 11th meets a want and produces the next one, and your professional lord is funding the cycle. The gap is generated by the same mechanism you succeed through, so more success will not close it.
Why do I have no friends outside work?
Because in this configuration the network and the career are the same set of people. It is efficient and it means a professional falling-out costs friendships, and changing field costs the social world along with it.
When will this placement give results?
During the 10th lord’s mahadasha, antardasha and pratyantardasha, and unlike most positions in this series those periods bring standing and arrival together. Later periods deliver considerably more.
Want this read in your own chart?
Whether your 10th lord is a yogakaraka and what else it rules decide how much this placement is worth, and the dasha sequence decides when the accumulation becomes visible. What settles delivery is the exact degree, anything conjoined or aspecting it, and which period you are running.
