The Recovery Formula

For lost objects and missing persons, the key houses are:

2nd house: Movable possessions, what belongs to you.

8th house: Loss, hidden things, what is concealed from you.

11th house: Recovery, gains, fulfillment of the desire to find.

When the 11th cusp Sub-Lord signifies 2nd and 11th while not strongly signifying 8th and 12th, recovery is indicated.

Analyzing Lost Objects

Will I find the lost item?

Check the 11th cusp Sub-Lord:

If it signifies 2nd, 6th, 11th: Recovery likely. The object will return to you.

If it signifies 8th, 12th: Recovery unlikely. The object may be permanently lost or destroyed.

If it signifies 5th (12th from 6th): The object may not be where you think it is.

Analyzing Missing Persons

Will the missing person return?

The 7th house represents “the other” person in general.

For specific relationships, use derived houses: 3rd for siblings, 5th for children, 4th for mother, 9th for father.

Check if their house (or the 7th for general “other”) connects favorably to your 11th (fulfillment of desire to find them).

Also check the Moon, which often represents the missing person in horary.

Theft Versus Misplacement

Distinguishing theft from misplacement:

7th house involvement: A thief (another person) is involved if the 7th house is activated in relation to the loss.

8th house emphasis without 7th: May indicate misplacement rather than theft. The item is hidden but not taken.

12th house emphasis: The item may be in a hidden or unlikely location, or genuinely lost beyond recovery.

Direction of Lost Object

Traditional horary suggests direction based on the sign where significators are placed:

Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius): East direction.

Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn): South direction.

Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius): West direction.

Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces): North direction.

The sign of the 4th cusp or Moon may suggest where to look. These indications are approximate.

Location Clues

Planets and signs provide location hints:

Fire signs: Near heat sources, fireplaces, kitchens, electrical equipment.

Earth signs: On the ground floor, in gardens, storage areas, among practical items.

Air signs: Upstairs, in bookshelves, near windows, in study areas.

The Moon’s sign and house, and the 4th house (representing the end of the matter and locations), provide clues.

Timing of Recovery

When will the item be found?

Ruling Planets at the horary moment suggest timing:

When the Moon transits the nakshatras of recovery significators, finding may occur.

When transiting planets aspect the 11th house of the horary chart, recovery may happen.

Cardinal signs suggest quick timing (days). Fixed signs suggest longer (weeks/months). Mutable signs suggest variable timing.

Recovery Unlikely Indicators

Recovery is unlikely when:

The 11th cusp Sub-Lord signifies 8th and 12th strongly.

The Moon is void of course or severely afflicted.

The 2nd house (possessions) is heavily afflicted.

Saturn strongly influences the matter without recovery houses.

In such cases, accept the loss and focus energy elsewhere rather than extended searching.

Practical Search Guidance

Use horary information practically:

If recovery is indicated, search persistently. The item exists and can be found.

Use directional and location hints as starting points for search.

If timing is suggested, intensify search during that window.

If recovery is unlikely, consider whether continued searching is worthwhile.

Missing Persons Special Considerations

Missing person cases require sensitivity:

If the person is in danger, contact authorities. Do not rely solely on astrology.

Runaways (voluntary departure) show different signatures than abductions or accidents.
