Takshak Kaal Sarp Dosha: Rahu in the 7th House, Ketu in the 1st

In Takshak Kaal Sarp dosha, Rahu occupies the seventh house, Ketu the first, and the planets all gather on a single side of that line. The seventh house is the spouse, marriage, business partners, contracts and dealings with the public; the first is the self, the body, temperament and the way a person meets the world. The axis is the horizon itself, the same line as in Anant Kaal Sarp dosha but with the nodes reversed, and it runs between who you are and who you join with. The name comes from Takshaka, the serpent king of the Mahabharata. Because Rahu sits in the house of marriage, the takshak kaal sarp yoga is often presented as a threat to married life, and this article looks at how much of that holds up: what Rahu in the 7th house and Ketu in the 1st house tend to describe, why the two forms of Takshak divide neatly into day and night births, how it compares with Anant, the KP checks for marriage and partnership, the periods that activate it, and two charts from practice.

The site’s complete guide to Kaal Sarp dosha covers the formation as a whole and the questions about its classical roots, and each type has a short entry in the overview of the twelve types. Its mirror image, with Rahu in the first and Ketu in the seventh, is Anant Kaal Sarp dosha, and Kaal Sarp dosha and marriage examines the marriage claims for all types.

Conventions used. As on the rest of the site, only strict formations are counted, with all seven planets inside the nodal arc by degree, and the type is named from Rahu’s whole-sign house. Mean nodes and Lahiri ayanamsa, matching Jagannatha Hora. For the statistics, 320,000 Delhi birth moments chosen at random across six decades from 1950 were computed with the Swiss Ephemeris, and the Takshak charts, with Anant for comparison, pulled out.

What Takshak Kaal Sarp dosha is

If Rahu occupies the seventh house, Ketu occupies the first. Should the Sun, the Moon and the five visible planets all land on the same side of that axis, the chart is labelled Takshak, the seventh of the twelve types in the popular scheme, sometimes written Takshak kalsarp dosh. The names date from modern times, and the formation is not found in Parashara, which the main guide explains.

Where the formation matters at all, it concentrates the chart on the nodal houses. Rahu magnifies and restlessly pursues the matters of the seventh; Ketu withdraws attachment from the matters of the first. So the typical Takshak pattern is a life in which partners, marriage and the public loom large, while the person’s own image and self-promotion matter comparatively little.

How many charts have it

Takshak accounted for 8.5 percent of strict Kaal Sarp charts in the site’s larger sample, close to the twelfth share every type would get if all were equal. With strict formations at about 7 percent of births, a full Takshak formation belongs to roughly one birth in 170. Calculators that include partial formations show it in something under 2 percent of charts. The years in which it can form are those in which Jupiter and Saturn share a side of the nodes, so it runs in generations rather than evenly.

Day births and night births

The first and seventh houses are the eastern and western horizon, so in a Takshak chart every planet is either above the horizon, in houses 8 to 12, or below it, in houses 2 to 6. That includes the Sun, and the Sun’s position decides whether a birth took place by day or by night. The result is a clean division. In the ascending form, with the planets running from Rahu in the seventh through houses 8 to 12, the Sun is above the horizon and the birth is by day; every ascending Takshak chart in the sample was a daytime birth. In the descending form, with the planets in houses 2 to 6, the Sun is below the horizon and the birth is at night, true of 99 percent of descending charts, the few exceptions being births with the Sun right on the horizon. The sample split exactly in half between the two.

The same holds for Anant in reverse, and the Anant article discusses what practitioners read into planets above or below the horizon. For Takshak, the practical point is simpler. If you were born at night, your Takshak chart is the descending form, and if by day, the ascending one.

Rahu in the 7th: the partner and the public

Rahu in the 7th house tends to bring partners who differ from the person’s background: another culture, community, country or age group, or a relationship that breaks with family expectations. Attraction can be intense and the partner prominent or ambitious. Beyond marriage, the placement often shows skill in trade, negotiation, contracts and public-facing work, and a life with many dealings with others. Rahu in the 7th house covers the placement fully, and inter-caste and foreign spouses in KP takes up the question of a partner from a different background.

Rahu in a Takshak chart stands in the seventh lord’s sign and carries out that lord’s results, so a strong seventh lord usually channels the placement into a notable partnership rather than an unsettled one.

Ketu in the 1st: a self held lightly

Ketu in the 1st house tends to give an understated presence, an inward and often spiritual temperament, strong intuition, and some uncertainty about self-definition, as though the person is never quite sure how to present themselves. Many people with it are more comfortable working behind the scenes than being the face of anything. Ketu in the 1st house describes the placement in general. In a Takshak chart, Ketu sits in the lagna lord’s own sign and is read through it, which ties the lagna lord’s condition closely to how the person carries themselves.

Takshak and Anant side by side

Anant and Takshak are the two types that sit on the horizon, and they are easiest to understand together.

In both, the lagna sits in a node’s own sign, so whether it falls inside or outside the hemming depends on the ascendant degree, not the sign, and the charts split roughly evenly.

What it does and does not mean for marriage

The takshak kaal sarp dosha marriage fear usually runs: delay, conflict, separation. The site’s article on Kaal Sarp and marriage makes the key point directly. When Rahu sits in the seventh it becomes a significator of seventh-house matters by occupation, and if its star lord also carries the 6th, 8th or 12th houses, marriage can genuinely be complicated. That is a reading of Rahu in the seventh, and it applies whether or not the other planets are hemmed. The hemming adds nothing of its own to the marriage question.

Many Takshak charts promise marriage clearly, often to someone from a different background, and the ones that struggle show it through the seventh cusp, not the label.

KP checks for marriage and partnership

For marriage, KP reads the sub-lord of the seventh cusp. When its chain signifies the 2nd, 7th and 11th houses, marriage is promised; when it signifies the 6th, 10th and 12th without that support, marriage is obstructed or denied, as the site’s page on the 6-10-12 combination sets out. Rahu, as an occupant of the seventh, is then read through its star lord: favourable houses there strengthen the promise, and 6th, 8th or 12th signification mixes it.

For business partnership, the same cusp is read with a commercial eye. The site’s guide to partnerships through the 7th cusp looks for the 2nd, 7th, 10th and 11th houses to support joint ventures, while the 6th, 8th and 12th point to conflict, sudden problems or losses through partners. Many people with Rahu in the seventh do well in trade precisely because the cusp supports it.

When Takshak comes forward

Rahu’s eighteen-year period, described in Rahu Mahadasha, is usually when seventh-house matters dominate: meeting a partner, marrying, forming or leaving partnerships, dealing with the public. Ketu’s seven years, covered in Ketu Mahadasha, tend to turn the attention inward, toward health routines, identity, spiritual practice and a quieter public profile. The first and seventh lords activate the axis in their own periods, and the node sub-periods give shorter versions of each. The nodes also return by transit to the first and seventh houses about every eighteen and a half years, but whether those years bring events depends on the dasha.

The lagna, partial formations and remedies

Because Ketu shares the lagna’s sign, the ascendant degree falls on either side of it. In the sample the lagna lay outside the hemming in 48 percent of Takshak charts, 42 percent of the ascending and 53 percent of the descending, and astrologers who count that as a cancellation would set those charts aside. Separately, 54 percent had a planet in the first or seventh sign alongside a node, which makes them partial in the site’s terms, as partial Kaal Sarp dosha explains.

The takshak kaal sarp dosha remedies usually offered are pujas, mantras and gemstones, often sold as protection for a marriage. Performing a ritual out of faith is a personal decision that harms no one; the chart does not require it, and the remedies review discusses which practices have a reasoned basis. For a marriage, attention, patience and, when needed, counselling do far more than any ritual aimed at the label.

Two charts with the Takshak axis

A woman with Scorpio ascendant, details altered, born in the afternoon. Rahu is in Taurus in her seventh house and Ketu in Scorpio in her first, with all seven planets in houses 8 to 12: the ascending, daytime form. Rahu acts for Venus, her seventh lord, and her 7th cusp sub-lord signifies the 2nd, 7th and 11th houses and the 10th. The Moon in Hasta at birth gave her six years of its period and seven of Mars’s, and Rahu’s Mahadasha then ran from thirteen to thirty-one. She qualified in law at twenty-three, in Rahu-Mercury, and at twenty-six, in Rahu-Venus, married a colleague from another state and another community. At thirty-two, in Jupiter-Jupiter, the two of them opened an immigration practice together.

A man with Aquarius ascendant, details altered, born a little before midnight. Rahu is in Leo in his seventh and Ketu in Aquarius in his first, with all seven planets in houses 2 to 6: the descending, night-time form. His 7th cusp sub-lord signifies the 2nd, 7th and 11th, a clear promise, but its star lord is Saturn, the planet of delay. A Rohini Moon left four years of its own period at birth; Mars’s followed, Rahu’s began at eleven and Jupiter’s at twenty-nine. Through Rahu’s period he trained as a sound engineer and built a reputation in film post-production without ever seeking attention, very much a first-house Ketu. He married at thirty-eight, in Jupiter-Venus, with Jupiter his second and eleventh lord and Venus his yogakaraka. His wife is the public face of the studio they now run.

Frequently asked questions

What is Takshak Kaal Sarp dosha?

The seventh Kaal Sarp type: Rahu in the 7th house, Ketu in the 1st, and every planet on one side of the horizon they mark. It emphasises partners, marriage and public dealings over the person’s own image.

Does Takshak Kaal Sarp dosha stop marriage?

No. Marriage is promised when the 7th cusp sub-lord signifies the 2nd, 7th and 11th houses and obstructed when it signifies the 6th, 10th and 12th. Rahu in the 7th matters through its star lord, whether or not the chart is hemmed.

How is Takshak different from Anant?

The nodes are reversed. Anant puts Rahu in the 1st and emphasises the self; Takshak puts Rahu in the 7th and emphasises the partner. Their ascending and descending forms are mirror images, one daytime and one night-time.

How common is Takshak Kaal Sarp dosha?

Uncommon. The strict test finds a full Takshak formation in about one birth in 170; tools that also flag partial formations mark nearly 2 percent of charts with it.

Is Takshak Kaal Sarp dosha bad for business partnerships?

Not in itself. Rahu in the 7th often suits trade and negotiation. Partnerships are judged from the 7th cusp sub-lord, favourable with the 2nd, 7th, 10th and 11th and difficult with the 6th, 8th and 12th.

What are the remedies for Takshak Kaal Sarp dosha?

No remedy is required, and a ritual is a matter of personal faith. What helps a marriage most is care, patience and counselling where needed.

When is the Takshak axis most active?

In Rahu’s periods, for partnership and marriage, and Ketu’s, for the inner and personal side, along with the periods of the 1st and 7th lords and the transit years when the nodes pass back over the same houses.
