Ketu in Krittika Nakshatra: Discriminating, Unsparing, All 4 Padas

Ketu in Krittika means Ketu was placed between 26 degrees 40 minutes of Aries and 10 degrees of Taurus at your birth, in the third nakshatra, ruled by the Sun and presided over by Agni, the fire. The dispositor changes partway through, Mars for the opening quarter and Venus for the remaining three, and since Ketu is read through its dispositor that split divides the reading. The pairing of graha and mansion is the cleanest in this series, because Krittika’s function is to cut away what does not belong and Ketu’s is to release what is no longer needed, which are the same operation described from two directions. There is a further detail worth holding, which is that Ketu is itself the severed part. What follows is what it masters and what it empties, the four padas, career, money, detachment, health and practices.

Check your degree first, then read the sign-level terrain that applies, Ketu in Aries for the first pada or Ketu in Taurus for the rest. The star’s own reference for any planet placed here lives at the Krittika nakshatra guide.

Check your own chart

Confirm the placement before reading, and here the degree decides the dispositor as well as the sign, which for Ketu is the reading itself. The checker returns the exact nakshatra and pada from the Swiss Ephemeris along with every other graha, and flags a planet close enough to a boundary that the time needs confirming. Note that this site uses the mean node throughout, and that Ketu always sits exactly opposite Rahu.

On reading Ketu

Ketu is not read the way the seven grahas are, and stating why makes this page usable rather than mystifying.

It has no physical body. Rahu and Ketu are the two points where the Moon’s path crosses the Sun’s, which is why they are always exactly opposite and why they move backward through the zodiac permanently. The tradition calls them chhaya grahas, shadow planets, and depicts them as the two halves of a severed asura, Rahu the head and Ketu the trunk.

Like Rahu, Ketu has no nature of its own and takes the character of the planet ruling the sign it occupies. What it does with that character is the opposite. Rahu enlarges what it finds, and Ketu concentrates it and then withdraws, which produces the pattern the tradition calls mastery without appetite. The classical dictum also holds that Ketu behaves like Mars, which is worth noting here since Mars disposes the opening quarter.

On exaltation the texts disagree, with Scorpio, Sagittarius and Taurus each supported by a substantial tradition, and Taurus holds three quarters of this star, so you may find this placement described as exalted elsewhere. This site does not treat the question as settled and reads sign placement through the dispositor instead. On Kaal Sarp, that is a whole-chart condition, set out properly in the Kaal Sarp Dosha complete guide.

The star through Ketu

Agni is the fire that carries an offering from this world to the other, and his second office matters here, because Agni is the witness. Vows are made before him precisely because fire cannot be lied to, which is why the marriage rite circles a flame rather than a book.

Krittika means the cutter, its symbol is the razor or the flame’s edge, and its work is separation, the removal of what does not belong. The Sun rules the star, ordinarily supplying visibility and standing, and the dispositor is Mars in the first quarter and Venus thereafter.

Now the arrangement. This mansion cuts and this graha is what remains after a cut, so the placement is on both sides of the operation at once. It performs the separation with a competence that comes from having been through one.

What that produces is discrimination of an unusual order. This placement sees what is essential in a thing and what has merely accumulated around it, and it sees this in a manuscript, a business, a proposal or a person, quickly and without needing to be told. The judgement is generally correct.

DispositorMars in pada 1, Venus in padas 2 to 4DeityAgni, the fire and the witness
SymbolThe razor, the flame’s edgeSignatureDiscriminating, exact, unsparing

Discrimination is the first signature and it is the sharpest thing about this placement. What is load-bearing and what is decoration are immediately distinguishable here, and that judgement holds up when it is tested, which is why the difficult assessment gets referred to it.

Honesty is the second, from Agni. This placement does not construct flattering accounts, of itself or of anything else, and its verdict can be relied on because there is nothing in it that wants a particular answer.

Willingness to remove is the third. Having seen what is inessential, this placement will actually take it out, which is the half most people with good judgement lack.

The strains follow the blade. The unweighed cut comes first and it is the central work, since the observation is accurate and the effect of making it is not being felt. This placement says the true thing about somebody’s work, plan or self, correctly, and what it removes was holding something up that the speaker had no stake in and therefore did not notice. The absence of investment is what makes the judgement clean and what makes the delivery costly. Its correction is the weighed cut, asking before you speak what the observation will take away and whether the person can spare it, since the accuracy is not in question and the cost is the part you cannot feel.

The stripping impulse is second, from Agni and Ketu together, where the same removal gets applied to one’s own life and things that were serving perfectly well are let go on the grounds of being unnecessary, answered by the plain question of what was actually wrong with it.

Indifference to recognition is third, from the Sun subtracted, described in the detachment section below. And the abrupt manner is fourth, from Mars in the first quarter and the graha’s own dictum, answered by the reasoning offered before the conclusion.

What it masters, what it empties

Ketu concentrates a thing and then withdraws from it, and both halves are the placement rather than one being a fault in the other.

What it masters here is the assessment. This placement can look at a body of work, a proposal or an organisation and say what is actually in it, which is a narrow skill and rarer than it should be because most people have a stake in the answer.

It masters the removal as well, so editing, pruning, triage and the disciplines of subtraction come naturally.

What it empties is the wish to be credited for it. The verdict is delivered and the credit is not pursued, so this placement’s judgement frequently improves things that are attributed to somebody else.

It empties the relationship to the outcome too, since having said what is true, it does not much mind whether the advice is taken.

The corrective is Agni’s own function rather than restraint. He separates in order that something survives, since the whole point of an assay is the gold that comes out of it, so the cut is in service of what remains rather than an end in itself. A placement that removes accurately and does not attend to what is left has performed half the operation. Natives running a Ketu mahadasha feel both halves at full strength, and timing belongs to the dashas rather than to the placement alone.

Male and female charts

Ketu in Krittika in a man’s chart

The pattern usually shows as a direct, exacting man whose assessment is trusted and whose delivery is remembered, often in a technical, editorial or quality-facing role, and who is markedly uninterested in the credit. He says the true thing. His watches are the accurate observation that removes something the other person needed, which he cannot feel because he has no stake in it, and the stripping applied to his own life on the grounds of unnecessariness. His corrections are the plain question of what the remark will take away, and the honest question of what was actually wrong with the thing he is discarding.

Ketu in Krittika in a female chart

The same discrimination and directness appear, and the same accurate remark costs her more, since directness in her is read as something other than accuracy. Her assessments are sound and generally early. Her watches are the same unweighed cut, and the indifference to credit, which in her case compounds an existing pattern of contributions being reassigned. This page’s position is that stating what she assessed and when is a record rather than a claim. Her corrections are the cost weighed before the remark, and the assessment put in writing under her own name.

The four padas of Ketu in Krittika

The dispositor changes at the sign boundary, from Mars to Venus, and each quarter is further read by the ruler of its navamsa, which is the secondary character being concentrated and released. The navamsa calculator renders the full chart.

Pada 1: 26°40′ to 30°00′ Aries, Sagittarius navamsa

The principled quarter, and the only one with Mars as dispositor. Jupiter rules the navamsa, so the assessment acquires a framework and is made against a standard rather than only against the facts. Strong for law, teaching, publishing and adjudication. The watch is the standard applied where a practical allowance was needed, and the correction is the situation heard fully before the judgement. This pada closes at the sign boundary, so verify the degree if the birth time is approximate.

Pada 2: 0°00′ to 3°20′ Taurus, Capricorn navamsa

The structural quarter. Venus becomes the dispositor and Saturn rules the navamsa, so material sense and patience run together, which makes this the pada that removes what is inessential and then builds properly on what is left. Strong for restoration, engineering and the value trades. The watch is the possession released as readily as everything else, and the correction is one thing deliberately kept.

Pada 3: 3°20′ to 6°40′ Taurus, Aquarius navamsa

The systems quarter, with Saturn’s other sign in the navamsa. The discrimination turns from objects toward structures, which suits standards work, audit, regulation and technical review, and is the least personally entangled position in the star. The watch is the assessment made at scale without the individual being seen, and the correction is the person weighed alongside the system.

Pada 4: 6°40′ to 10°00′ Taurus, Pisces navamsa

The softened quarter. Jupiter rules the navamsa, so compassion and breadth attach to the discrimination, which removes much of the hardness the rest of the star produces and gives this placement its gentlest delivery. Well suited to medicine, teaching and welfare work. The watch is the vagueness that avoids the necessary judgement altogether, and the correction is the assessment stated once it is reached.

Career and work

Separating the essential from the accumulated is the organising principle, so quality assessment and inspection lead, along with audit and the review functions where an honest verdict is the product.

Editing follows in every register, text, film and design, since the work is deciding what comes out and this placement does that without the attachment that stops most people.

Surgery belongs to the star’s own symbol and to the first pada in particular, along with the procedural specialties where removal is the treatment.

The fire and metal trades belong to Agni literally, metallurgy, foundry work and the industrial disciplines conducted at temperature, and the Taurus quarters add restoration and the material crafts. The filter is judgement, this Ketu performs where an accurate verdict is required and disengages where the answer is already decided.

Money

The financial pattern is spare rather than poor, since this placement does not accumulate much and does not need much, and its judgement about value is sound when it bothers to apply it.

The leaks follow the stripping. The discarded asset is the first, where something is let go because it seemed unnecessary and turns out to have been worth keeping, and the correction is a stated waiting period before anything of value is released, since the impulse to remove is faster here than the assessment of what is being removed.

Undercharging is second, since a judgement that arrives without effort does not feel billable, answered by pricing against what the market pays for the same accuracy. And the unclaimed contribution is third, from the Sun subtracted, answered by the assessment recorded under your own name.

Detachment

Ketu is the graha of release, so this series states plainly what each placement tends to withdraw from, on the principle that a named pattern is easier to work with than an unnamed one.

The detachment here is from recognition, which is notable because the Sun rules this star and would ordinarily supply the opposite. What Ketu does to a solar star lordship is remove the appetite for standing while leaving the capacity to earn it, so this placement does work that would justify considerable reputation and does not pursue any.

The practical consequence is that the contribution goes unrecorded. Assessments are given, improvements are made, and the attribution settles wherever it happens to settle, which this placement genuinely does not mind and which costs it real ground over a career.

What helps is separating the record from the recognition. Wanting credit and keeping an account of what you did are different things, and the second is available to somebody with no appetite for the first, which makes writing down what you assessed and when a practical measure rather than a compromise with vanity.

The genuine risk is that a career built on invisible judgement leaves nothing to point at, so the standing that would have followed the work never accumulates and the position remains junior to people whose work this placement corrected.

Health

Ketu is associated with conditions that are sudden, obscure or resistant to diagnosis, and with amplifying whatever the rest of the chart already indicates rather than with an organ of its own. Krittika’s territory in the nakshatra purusha is the waist and hips, Agni adds the digestive fire, and the signs contribute the head for the first quarter and the throat for the rest.

Digestion is the practical headline, since Agni under this graha tends to run irregular rather than weak, so meals taken at consistent times do more than any adjustment to what is eaten.

The throat belongs to the Taurus quarters and is worth attention, including thyroid function in routine bloodwork rather than waiting for a symptom.

The practical note is that a person with little attachment to their own comfort under-reports, so scheduled screening matters more here than reactive treatment. Where a complaint has resisted explanation, a second opinion is worth more than persistence with the first, and this graha’s association with the undiagnosed makes that worth acting on. On anything symptomatic, doctors lead and the chart follows, always.

Practices that suit this Ketu

Tuesday is Ketu’s day in common practice, and the standing observance is the salutation Om Ketave Namah, with Ganesha the customary devotional focus for this graha, so Om Gam Ganapataye Namah suits a household that keeps it. Sunday suits the Sun’s lordship of this star, and Friday the Venus dispositor for the Taurus quarters.

The star’s salutation is Om Agnaye Namah, and the daily lamp lit properly is this mansion’s own rite, small and exact and worth doing with attention rather than as a formality.

The seva associated with Ketu is the giving of food and support without the giver being known, which suits this placement so naturally that it is worth pairing with the discipline below rather than treated as sufficient on its own.

Two disciplines carry the page’s teaching. The weighed cut comes first and matters most, asking before you speak what the observation will take away and whether the person can spare it, since the accuracy is never the problem and the cost is the part this placement genuinely cannot feel. And the kept record comes second, a written account of what you assessed and when, because wanting credit and keeping a record are different things, and the second remains available to somebody with no appetite for the first.

Questions people ask

Is Ketu in Krittika bad?

The question fits this graha poorly. Mars disposes the first quarter and Venus the rest, with the Sun ruling the star, so Ketu concentrates a martial and then a material character and removes the appetite for standing. It gives exceptional discrimination, real honesty and the willingness to remove what is inessential. Its strain is an accurate remark that takes something away. The whole chart, the dispositor’s condition and the running dashas decide the delivery.

Is Ketu exalted in Taurus?

One tradition places it there, others place the exaltation in Scorpio or Sagittarius, and the texts do not agree. This site reads sign placement through the dispositor instead, which in Taurus is Venus.

Why does the reading change inside this star?

Because Ketu is read through its dispositor and this mansion crosses a sign boundary, so the first quarter is a Ketu working on Mars and the other three on Venus, which is a considerable difference for a graha with no nature of its own.

Which pada of Ketu in Krittika is strongest?

The question works differently for Ketu, since each quarter changes which character is being concentrated and released. Pada 1 combines Mars with Jupiter and judges by principle, pada 2 combines Venus with Saturn and rebuilds, pada 3 turns institutional, and pada 4 adds Jupiter and softens the delivery.

Does Ketu in Krittika mean Kaal Sarp?

No. Kaal Sarp concerns the arrangement of every planet in relation to the nodal axis and is a whole-chart condition, so no nakshatra placement establishes it. The Kaal Sarp Dosha complete guide sets out how it is actually assessed.

What careers suit Ketu in Krittika?

Quality assessment, inspection and audit, editing in every register, surgery and the procedural medical specialties, the fire and metal trades including metallurgy, standards and regulatory review, and restoration or the material crafts for the Taurus quarters.

What remedies suit Ketu in Krittika?

Tuesday observance with Sunday as a natural second, the salutations Om Ketave Namah and Om Agnaye Namah, Ganesha worship where a household keeps it, and the daily lamp lit with attention. The seva that fits is support given anonymously. The most useful discipline is unritual, asking what a remark will remove before making it. Gemstones follow the whole chart’s need and never a single placement, and cat’s eye in particular is never worn on a one-line rule.
