Ketu in Uttara Ashadha Nakshatra: Durable, Vargottama, All 4 Padas

Ketu in Uttara Ashadha means Ketu was placed between 26 degrees 40 minutes of Sagittarius and 10 degrees of Capricorn at your birth, in the twenty-first nakshatra, ruled by the Sun and presided over by the Vishvadevas, the universal gods. The dispositor changes at the sign line, Jupiter for the opening quarter and Saturn for the remaining three, and since Ketu is read through its dispositor that divides the reading. The mansion is the second of the invincible pair, the latter unconquered, and the victory it describes is the one that holds rather than the one that dazzles. Its deity is the assembly of all the gods together, which makes universal assent the mansion’s own subject, and this graha requires nobody’s agreement about anything. What follows is what it masters and what it empties, the four padas, career, money, detachment, health and practices.

The star crosses a sign boundary, so check your degree and read the terrain that applies, Ketu in Sagittarius for the first pada or Ketu in Capricorn for the rest. The star’s own reference for any planet placed here lives at the Uttara Ashadha nakshatra guide.

Confirm the placement before reading, and here the degree decides the dispositor as well as the sign, which for Ketu is the reading itself. The checker returns the exact nakshatra and pada from the Swiss Ephemeris along with every other graha, and flags a planet close enough to a boundary that the time needs confirming. Note that this site uses the mean node throughout, and that Ketu always sits exactly opposite Rahu.

On reading Ketu

Ketu is not read the way the seven grahas are, and stating why makes this page usable rather than mystifying.

It has no physical body. Rahu and Ketu are the two points where the Moon’s path crosses the Sun’s, which is why they are always exactly opposite and why they move backward through the zodiac permanently. The tradition calls them chhaya grahas, shadow planets, and depicts them as the two halves of a severed asura, Rahu the head and Ketu the trunk.

Like Rahu, Ketu has no nature of its own and takes the character of the planet ruling the sign it occupies. What it does with that character is the opposite. Rahu enlarges what it finds, and Ketu concentrates it and then withdraws, which produces the pattern the tradition calls mastery without appetite. The classical dictum also holds that Ketu behaves like Mars.

On exaltation the texts disagree, with Scorpio, Sagittarius and Taurus each supported by a substantial tradition, and the opening quarter sits in Sagittarius, so you may find that quarter described as exalted elsewhere. This site reads sign placement through the dispositor instead. On Kaal Sarp, that is a whole-chart condition, set out properly in the Kaal Sarp Dosha complete guide.

The star through Ketu

The Vishvadevas are all the gods taken together, invoked as a body rather than singly, and what they represent is the whole assembly agreeing. A matter settled before them is settled with everybody present.

Uttara Ashadha is the second of the unconquered pair, and the tradition draws the distinction carefully. The former mansion is the victory won, and this one is the victory that does not have to be won again, achieved slowly and holding afterwards without maintenance.

The Sun rules the star, and the dispositor is Jupiter for the opening quarter and Saturn for the rest, so what is being concentrated and released is conviction at first and then structure.

Now the arrangement, which follows from the deity directly. This mansion’s settlements carry universal assent, and Ketu has no requirement for anybody’s assent at all.

What that produces is a person whose conclusions are final. When this placement decides a matter is closed, it is genuinely closed, with no residue, no revisiting and no lingering appetite to reopen it. The finality is complete and it is entirely interior.

DispositorJupiter in pada 1, Saturn in padas 2 to 4DeityThe Vishvadevas, the universal gods
SymbolThe tusk, the planks of a bedSignatureDurable, conclusive, unannounced

Building what lasts is the first signature. What this placement establishes tends to still be standing decades later, because it was put together slowly and correctly rather than quickly, and because nothing in it depended on the founder remaining interested.

Finality is the second. Decisions here are made once and are actually made, without the long tail of second-guessing that follows most people’s choices, which is why this placement is restful to work alongside.

Freedom from needing agreement is the third, from the Vishvadevas under this graha. A conclusion does not require ratification to be held, so this placement is unbothered by being the only person who thinks something.

The strains follow the assent. The unannounced settlement comes first and it is the central work, since a matter is closed here completely and invisibly. A dispute, a request, a relationship question or a professional possibility is considered, decided, and shut, and the closing is so total that it does not occur to the person to mention it. The other party is meanwhile still in the conversation, waiting for a reply, holding the matter open in good faith. Its correction is the announced settlement, saying plainly that you consider something finished, since your closure is complete and the other side has no way of detecting it.

The sealed decision is second, where new information arrives after a matter has been closed and does not reopen it, because reopening requires an appetite that was removed with everything else, answered by one stated condition under which you would look at it again, decided at the time of closing.

The unclaimed foundation is third, from the Sun released, where what you built carries somebody else’s name, answered by the record kept as you go. And the withheld difficulty is fourth, from Saturn, answered by one person told plainly.

What it masters, what it empties

Ketu concentrates a thing and then withdraws from it, and both halves are the placement rather than one being a fault in the other.

What it masters here is the durable settlement. Given something contested or unresolved, this placement can arrive at a conclusion that holds, and holds without needing to be defended afterwards, which almost nobody manages.

It masters building for the long term as well, since nothing in what it constructs is designed around its own continued involvement.

What it empties is the ratification. No agreement is sought, no announcement is made, and the settlement exists entirely in one person’s understanding.

It empties the reopening too, so a matter closed stays closed against evidence that would have moved most people.

The corrective is the deity’s own procedure rather than a rule about flexibility. The Vishvadevas are invoked as an assembly because a settlement made before all of them is one that everybody has heard, and hearing is the point. A conclusion reached alone and never voiced has the finality of a judgement and the standing of a private thought, and the people bound by it were never in the room. Natives running a Ketu mahadasha feel both halves at full strength, and timing belongs to the dashas rather than to the placement alone.

Male and female charts

Ketu in Uttara Ashadha in a man’s chart

The pattern usually shows as a steady, conclusive man who has built something that outlasted his involvement in it, often in an institution, a trade or a technical field, and who does not revisit decisions. He settles things once. His watches are the matter he closed completely and never mentioned, leaving the other party still waiting, and the new information that arrives too late to reopen anything. His corrections are saying plainly that he considers something finished, and one stated condition under which he would look again.

Ketu in Uttara Ashadha in a female chart

The same durability and finality appear, and the unannounced settlement carries more weight in her case, since silence from her is more readily read as consent or as the matter remaining open, so the gap between what she has decided and what others believe is wider. Her judgements are sound and generally permanent. Her watches are the same invisible closure, and the foundation she laid that carries another name. This page’s position is that stating a decision is information others are owed rather than a confrontation. Her corrections are the settlement announced, and the record kept as it is made.

The four padas of Ketu in Uttara Ashadha

The dispositor changes at the sign boundary, from Jupiter to Saturn, and each quarter is further read by the ruler of its navamsa, which is the secondary character being concentrated and released. The navamsa calculator renders the full chart.

Pada 1: 26°40′ to 30°00′ Sagittarius, Sagittarius navamsa

The principled quarter, and vargottama, Sagittarius in both charts, so Jupiter is the character at both levels and the subtraction runs deepest. Conviction, breadth and philosophical seriousness are at their fullest and the appetite attached is entirely gone, which produces someone who holds a considered position and neither promotes nor defends it. Strong for teaching, law and advisory work. The watch is the judgement reached and not communicated, and the correction is the finding stated. This pada closes at the sign boundary, so verify the degree if the birth time is approximate.

Pada 2: 0°00′ to 3°20′ Capricorn, Capricorn navamsa

The most structural quarter, and vargottama in Capricorn, where Saturn becomes the dispositor and also rules the navamsa. Patience, organisation and institutional realism run at their fullest, which makes this the pada that builds the thing that is still standing in forty years. Strong for administration, infrastructure and the long careers. The watch is the responsibility carried without the title, and the correction is the arrangement made formal.

Pada 3: 3°20′ to 6°40′ Capricorn, Aquarius navamsa

The systemic quarter, with Saturn’s other sign in the navamsa. The settling turns from individual matters toward frameworks and rules, which suits regulation, standards and organisational design. The watch is the decision made correctly at scale with the affected person never informed, and the correction is the announcement built into the process.

Pada 4: 6°40′ to 10°00′ Capricorn, Pisces navamsa

The softened quarter. Jupiter rules the navamsa, so compassion and breadth attach to the structure, producing someone who settles things durably on behalf of people who cannot settle them themselves. Well suited to welfare, medical administration and advocacy. The watch is the boundary that dissolves under sympathy, and the correction is the limit stated inside genuine willingness.

Career and work

Settling things so they stay settled is the organising principle, so standards and regulatory work lead, where the product is a rule that holds and does not need revisiting every year.

Infrastructure and institution-building follow, particularly the founding work that somebody else will run, since this placement builds without designing itself into the structure.

Adjudication suits the combination directly, since the work is reaching a conclusion that ends a matter, and this placement does that without residue.

Archives, records and the custodial professions belong to the durability, and the fourth pada adds welfare administration. The filter is permanence, this Ketu performs where something is being settled for good and disengages from work that will only be redone.

Money

The financial pattern is conservative and durable, since Saturn disposes most of the star and this placement builds slowly and does not speculate.

The leaks follow the silence. The undeclared decision is the first, where a financial matter is settled internally and the other parties continue on the previous understanding, and the correction is the announcement this page prescribes applied to money specifically, since a household or a partner operating on a version you have privately closed is the most expensive form this takes.

The unclaimed foundation is second, from the Sun released, where what you built generates somebody else’s standing and rate, answered by the record kept as you go. And the sealed arrangement is third, where a structure is never reconsidered because it was settled, answered by a scheduled review.

Detachment

Ketu is the graha of release, so this series states plainly what each placement tends to withdraw from, on the principle that a named pattern is easier to work with than an unnamed one.

The detachment here is from needing agreement, which sounds like independence and produces something more specific than that.

The practical shape is that conclusions are reached privately and are complete on arrival. This placement does not test a view against anybody, does not seek confirmation, and does not experience the unfinished feeling that keeps most people’s decisions provisional until somebody else has nodded. When it is done, it is done.

The cost is not stubbornness, which would be visible. It is that the settlement is invisible. Somebody who has been waiting for your answer for six months does not know they received it, because you gave it to yourself and the matter closed. From your side there is nothing outstanding. From theirs the conversation is still open, and they are behaving accordingly.

The correction is mechanical rather than emotional. When you close something that involves another person, tell them. One sentence, at the time. That is the entire remedy, and the reason it does not occur without prompting is that the internal event felt complete and there was nothing left over to prompt it.

The second half is the condition. Because reopening requires an appetite that has been removed, decide at the moment of closing what would make you look again, and say that too. It costs nothing while the matter is fresh and it is unavailable afterwards.

Health

Ketu is associated with conditions that are sudden, obscure or resistant to diagnosis, and with amplifying whatever the rest of the chart already indicates rather than with an organ of its own. Uttara Ashadha’s territory in the nakshatra purusha is the thighs and waist, and the signs add their own, Sagittarius the hips and liver and Capricorn the knees, bones and joints.

The knees and bones come first for the Capricorn quarters, rewarding strength work maintained rather than resumed after trouble, and bone health is worth attending to earlier than most people do.

The hips and thighs belong to the star’s own region and to the first pada’s sign.

The practical note follows this page’s subject, since a person who settles matters internally will have concluded privately that a symptom is nothing, and that conclusion is as final as every other one they make. Scheduled screening is the answer, because it does not depend on the question being reopened. Where a complaint has resisted explanation, a second opinion is worth more than persistence with the first. On anything symptomatic, doctors lead and the chart follows, always.

Practices that suit this Ketu

Tuesday is Ketu’s day in common practice, and the standing observance is the salutation Om Ketave Namah, with Ganesha the customary devotional focus for this graha, so Om Gam Ganapataye Namah suits a household that keeps it. Sunday suits the Sun’s lordship of this star, with Thursday or Saturday for the dispositor depending on your quarter.

The star’s salutation is Om Vishvebhyo Devebhyo Namah, and what the collective invocation teaches this placement is the whole of the page, since the gods are addressed together so that a settlement is heard by everybody it concerns.

The seva associated with Ketu is the giving of food and support without the giver being known, which this placement performs steadily and durably once it is established.

Two disciplines carry the page’s teaching. The announced settlement comes first and matters most, one sentence at the time telling somebody that you consider a matter closed, since your closure is total and leaves no residue to prompt you, while the other party has no way at all of detecting it and continues in good faith. And the stated condition comes second, deciding at the moment of closing what would make you look at it again and saying that as well, because reopening needs an appetite that has been removed, and the condition costs nothing while the matter is fresh and is unavailable once it is not.

Questions people ask

Is Ketu in Uttara Ashadha good?

The question fits this graha poorly. Jupiter disposes the first quarter and Saturn the rest, with the Sun ruling the star, so Ketu concentrates conviction and then structure and releases the appetite attached, in the mansion of the lasting victory. It gives real durability, genuine finality in decisions and freedom from needing agreement. Its strain is settling matters invisibly. The whole chart, the dispositor’s condition and the running dashas decide the delivery.

Why do people think a matter is still open when I have closed it?

Because the closing happened entirely inside you and left nothing over to prompt an announcement. From your side there is no outstanding item, so nothing signals that anybody needs telling, while from theirs the conversation never ended. One sentence at the time is the whole remedy.

Why does the reading change inside this star?

Because Ketu is read through its dispositor and this mansion crosses a sign boundary, so the opening quarter works on Jupiter and the other three on Saturn, which is a considerable difference for a graha with no nature of its own.

Which pada of Ketu in Uttara Ashadha is strongest?

The question works differently for Ketu, since each quarter changes which character is being released. Pada 1 is vargottama in Sagittarius with Jupiter doubled, pada 2 is vargottama in Capricorn with Saturn doubled and builds most durably, pada 3 turns regulatory, and pada 4 adds Jupiter and softens.

Does Ketu in Uttara Ashadha mean Kaal Sarp?

No. Kaal Sarp concerns the arrangement of every planet in relation to the nodal axis and is a whole-chart condition, so no nakshatra placement establishes it. The Kaal Sarp Dosha complete guide sets out how it is actually assessed.

What careers suit Ketu in Uttara Ashadha?

Standards and regulatory work, infrastructure and institution-building, adjudication, archives and the custodial professions, organisational design for the third pada, and welfare administration for the fourth.

What remedies suit Ketu in Uttara Ashadha?

Tuesday observance with Sunday as a natural second and Thursday or Saturday for the dispositor, the salutations Om Ketave Namah and Om Vishvebhyo Devebhyo Namah, and Ganesha worship where a household keeps it. The most useful discipline is unritual, telling people when you consider a matter closed. Gemstones follow the whole chart’s need and never a single placement, and cat’s eye in particular is never worn on a one-line rule.

In this star the exact degree decides which planet Ketu is working on, and it always sits opposite Rahu, so the axis has to be read as a pair.
