Ketu in Pushya means Ketu was placed between 3 degrees 20 minutes and 16 degrees 40 minutes of Cancer at your birth, in the eighth nakshatra, ruled by Saturn and presided over by Brihaspati, guru of the gods. Cancer belongs to the Moon, so the character being concentrated and then released is feeling, care and the need to belong. The pairing is exact, because Brihaspati is the preceptor and Ketu is the graha the tradition assigns to knowledge already acquired, so this is the mansion of the teacher holding the graha of the person who arrives having been taught. What that produces is real understanding with no interest in being certified for it, and the gap between those two is what this page is about. What follows is what it masters and what it empties, the four padas, career, money, detachment, health and practices.
Ketu in Pushya sits entirely within Cancer, so the Ketu in Cancer reading gives the sign-level terrain and this page sharpens it to the star. The star’s own reference for any planet placed here lives at the Pushya nakshatra guide.

Confirm the placement before reading. The checker returns Ketu’s exact nakshatra and pada from the Swiss Ephemeris along with every other graha, and flags a planet close enough to a boundary that birth-time error could move it. Note that this site uses the mean node throughout, and that Ketu always sits exactly opposite Rahu.

On reading Ketu
Ketu is not read the way the seven grahas are, and stating why makes this page usable rather than mystifying.
It has no physical body. Rahu and Ketu are the two points where the Moon’s path crosses the Sun’s, which is why they are always exactly opposite and why they move backward through the zodiac permanently. The tradition calls them chhaya grahas, shadow planets, and depicts them as the two halves of a severed asura, Rahu the head and Ketu the trunk.
Like Rahu, Ketu has no nature of its own and takes the character of the planet ruling the sign it occupies. What it does with that character is the opposite. Rahu enlarges what it finds, and Ketu concentrates it and then withdraws, which produces the pattern the tradition calls mastery without appetite. The classical dictum also holds that Ketu behaves like Mars.
On exaltation the texts disagree, with Scorpio, Sagittarius and Taurus each supported by a substantial tradition, so this site reads sign placement through the dispositor instead. On Kaal Sarp, that is a whole-chart condition, set out properly in the Kaal Sarp Dosha complete guide.
The star through Ketu
Pushya means to nourish, and the tradition regards it as the most auspicious of the twenty-seven. Its symbols are the cow’s udder and the lotus, both of which give without being diminished, and its deity is Brihaspati, the preceptor of the gods, who holds the ritual order and decides what is properly sanctioned.
Saturn rules the mansion, an unusual pairing with a benefic deity, adding patience and the requirement that things be earned. The Moon holds the sign as dispositor, so feeling and belonging are what this graha is working on.
Now the arrangement. Brihaspati’s function is instruction, and Ketu’s whole signature is competence that arrives without instruction, so the graha placed here is the one student the teacher has nothing to give.
What that produces is a person who already knows the subject. In whatever field this placement enters, it understands the material at a level that does not correspond to the time it has spent, and the understanding is genuine rather than confidence being mistaken for it.
What it also produces is complete indifference to the certification of that, which is a separate matter and, in most fields, the one that decides what you are allowed to do.
The Ketu in Pushya nature
| Span | 3°20′ to 16°40′ Cancer | Star lord | Saturn |
| Dispositor | Moon, so Ketu concentrates and releases feeling | Deity | Brihaspati, guru of the gods |
| Symbol | The cow’s udder, the lotus | Signature | Knowing, nourishing, uncertified |
Prior understanding is the first signature. This placement grasps a subject faster and further than its training explains, and the grasp holds up when it is tested, which is what separates it from the ordinary overconfidence of the quick learner.
Capacity to nourish is the second, from Pushya. People are fed here, literally and otherwise, and households and departments organise themselves around that provision without anybody quite deciding to.
Willingness to teach is the third, from the deity. What this placement knows it gives away readily, without gatekeeping and without requiring that its authority be acknowledged first.
The strains follow the certification. The missing credential comes first and it is the central work, since the knowledge is real and the paper that permits its use is not there, and the reason is simply that obtaining it never presented itself as necessary. What follows is a life spent knowing more than the people above you and being unable to act on it, which the person experiences as an institutional absurdity and which is in fact an entirely predictable consequence. Its correction is the obtained credential, going through the formal process not in order to learn but in order to be permitted, since the understanding is already present and the permission is what is missing.
The unfinished instruction is second, where a course, a training or an apprenticeship is abandoned because most of it was already known, which loses the portion that was not, answered by completing one thing to its end specifically for the parts you had not anticipated.
The unfed self is third, from Pushya’s own subject inverted, where the placement that nourishes everybody does not attend to its own basic maintenance, answered by the ordinary things kept on a schedule. And delay is fourth, from Saturn’s lordship, answered by patience treated as the price rather than as a verdict.
What it masters, what it empties
Ketu concentrates a thing and then withdraws from it, and both halves are the placement rather than one being a fault in the other.
What it masters here is the subject itself. This placement holds a body of knowledge properly, in its structure rather than in fragments, and can be relied on for the actual answer rather than the received one.
It masters transmission as well, since the knowing is not defended and is therefore easy to hand over, which makes this an unusually good teacher of anybody who will listen.
What it empties is the wish to be recognised as knowing. No authority is claimed, no qualification is pursued, and the standing that would ordinarily accumulate around this much understanding never forms.
It empties the appetite for instruction too, which is the same fact from the other side and costs the parts of a subject that lie outside what was already carried.
The corrective is Brihaspati’s own position rather than a rule about ambition. He is not merely learned, he is the preceptor, which is an office as well as a competence, and the office exists so that the knowledge can be applied on other people’s behalf. A placement that has the understanding and refuses the office has kept the private half of what this deity governs. Natives running a Ketu mahadasha feel both halves at full strength, and timing belongs to the dashas rather than to the placement alone.
Male and female charts
Ketu in Pushya in a man’s chart
The pattern usually shows as a knowledgeable, generous man working somewhere below what he understands, often without the qualification his field expects, and frequently teaching the people who are formally senior to him. He gives it away freely. His watches are the credential he never obtained because it never seemed necessary, and the training he left partway through on the grounds that he already knew most of it. His corrections are the formal process completed in order to be permitted rather than in order to learn, and one course finished for the portion he had not anticipated.
Ketu in Pushya in a female chart
The same prior understanding and generosity appear, and the missing credential costs her considerably more, since knowledge without a formal warrant is questioned harder in her case and the benefit of the doubt is not extended. Her grasp of the material is real and routinely underestimated. Her watches are the same absent paper, and the nourishing that is assumed rather than credited, in a household or a department that has organised itself around her provision. This page’s position is that the certificate is a permission rather than a claim, and that she has more use for it than most. Her corrections are the credential obtained deliberately, and her own maintenance kept on a schedule.
The four padas of Ketu in Pushya
The Moon is the dispositor throughout, and each quarter is further read by the ruler of its navamsa, which is the secondary character being concentrated and released. The navamsa calculator renders the full chart.
Pada 1: 3°20′ to 6°40′ Cancer, Leo navamsa
The visible quarter. The Sun rules the navamsa, so presence attaches to the knowing, which produces the pada most likely to be listened to without a title, since authority of manner substitutes for authority of paper. Strong for teaching, leadership in care institutions and public-facing roles. The watch is the standing that rests entirely on personal presence and does not survive a change of setting, and the correction is the formal position taken as well.
Pada 2: 6°40′ to 10°00′ Cancer, Virgo navamsa
The exacting quarter. Mercury rules the navamsa, so analysis and method attach to the understanding, which makes this the pada that can document what it knows and therefore the one best placed to convert it into a qualification. Strong for medicine, technical fields and research. The watch is the standard applied to oneself far past what is required, and the correction is the point of sufficiency decided in advance.
Pada 3: 10°00′ to 13°20′ Cancer, Libra navamsa
The relational quarter. Venus rules the navamsa, so social capability attaches to the nourishing, which suits counselling, hospitality and the professions where care is delivered through relationship. The watch is the giving that expands until nothing is left over, and the correction is a stated limit named at the outset.
Pada 4: 13°20′ to 16°40′ Cancer, Scorpio navamsa
The deepest quarter. Mars rules the navamsa, which the graha already shares, so force and privacy attach to the knowing, producing the capacity to hold difficult material and work with it directly. Strong for surgery, psychotherapy and the clinical roles others avoid. The watch is the interior life sealed completely, and the correction is one person given genuine access.
Career and work
Knowledge that arrived early is the organising principle, so teaching leads, in whatever subject the placement actually holds, since the understanding is genuine and the willingness to hand it over is complete.
The traditional bodies of knowledge suit this placement particularly, the classical disciplines, the crafts with a transmitted method and the fields where a lineage exists, because those are the ones in which arriving already competent is recognisable rather than suspicious.
Nursing, care work and the nourishment trades belong to Pushya’s own subject, and this placement is drawn to them regardless of what it is qualified in.
Medicine suits the second pada, and psychotherapy or clinical work the fourth. The filter is substance, this Ketu performs where the material is real and disengages entirely from work that is mainly positional.
Money
The financial pattern is modest and steady, since Saturn’s lordship supplies restraint and the graha removes the wish to accumulate, so the position is adequate and never optimised.
The leaks follow the certification. The unqualified rate is the first and the largest, where the same work is paid less because the paper is missing, which is a structural rather than a personal matter and is fixed by the same measure this page prescribes throughout.
Unlimited provision is second, where the household or the department absorbs whatever is available because giving is the reflex, answered by a stated figure. And undercharging is third, since knowledge that arrived without effort does not feel billable, answered by pricing against what the market pays for the same competence.
Detachment
Ketu is the graha of release, so this series states plainly what each placement tends to withdraw from, on the principle that a named pattern is easier to work with than an unnamed one.
The detachment here is from sanction, which is exactly the appetite that its opposite half brings to this same mansion. Where that placement wants to be properly among and pursues every marker of belonging, this one has no interest in the markers at all and is genuinely puzzled that they carry weight.
The practical shape is that formal recognition is not sought, not accepted gracefully when offered, and not missed when it goes elsewhere. This is not modesty, which involves a wish that has been suppressed. Nothing is being suppressed. The wanting is simply absent.
What helps is separating the credential from the recognition, which are different objects that this placement treats as one. A qualification is a permission to act, and a person with no appetite for status can still want permission, since the permission is what allows the knowledge to be used on somebody’s behalf rather than sitting unused in a junior position.
The second thing worth watching is the nourishing turned outward without any turning inward. Sleep, meals, appointments and rest are the things that get skipped by a placement that attends to everybody else’s, and the skipping is not noticed because it does not feel like deprivation. A schedule handles what the appetite will not.
Health
Ketu is associated with conditions that are sudden, obscure or resistant to diagnosis, and with amplifying whatever the rest of the chart already indicates rather than with an organ of its own. Pushya’s territory in the nakshatra purusha is the mouth and face, and Cancer governs the chest and stomach.
The stomach comes first, since the sign, the star’s nourishing subject and a placement that does not attend to its own intake all point at the same region.
Where the relationship to food itself has become difficult, whether in the direction of skipping, of eating without attention, or of preoccupation, that belongs with a doctor or a qualified professional and not with a chart or a self-directed plan, and this site offers no dietary guidance for that reason.
The practical note is that a person who feeds everybody else and is not attached to their own comfort under-reports and under-attends, so scheduled appointments matter here more than reactive ones. Where a complaint has resisted explanation, a second opinion is worth more than persistence with the first. On anything symptomatic, doctors lead and the chart follows, always.
Practices that suit this Ketu
Tuesday is Ketu’s day in common practice, and the standing observance is the salutation Om Ketave Namah, with Ganesha the customary devotional focus for this graha, so Om Gam Ganapataye Namah suits a household that keeps it. Saturday suits Saturn’s lordship of this star, Monday the Moon as dispositor and Thursday the deity, where the family tradition holds any of them.
The star’s salutation is Om Brihaspataye Namah, and Guru Pushya yoga, which falls when this mansion coincides with a Thursday, is treated as one of the most auspicious combinations in the calendar. For this placement it is worth using deliberately for the one thing the page prescribes, since beginning a formal course of study on that day is a fitting way to start a process undertaken for permission rather than for learning.
The seva associated with Ketu is the giving of food and support without the giver being known, which here is the star’s own subject as well, so feeding people is this placement’s practice twice over and comes easily enough that it should be paired with the harder discipline rather than treated as sufficient.
Two disciplines carry the page’s teaching. The obtained credential comes first and matters most, the formal process completed in order to be permitted rather than in order to learn, since the understanding here is genuine and the permission is what is missing, and no amount of knowing supplies it. And the kept schedule comes second, your own sleep, meals and appointments held to as fixtures, because a placement that nourishes everybody does not register its own maintenance as a need and will not notice the skipping.
Questions people ask
Is Ketu in Pushya good?
It is a knowledgeable and generous placement. The Moon is the dispositor and Saturn rules the star, so Ketu concentrates feeling and releases it, in the mansion of the teacher. It gives genuine prior understanding, real capacity to nourish and a complete willingness to teach. Its strain is knowledge without the credential that permits its use. The whole chart, the dispositor’s condition and the running dashas decide the delivery.
Why do I already know things I have not studied?
The tradition’s reading is that Ketu carries knowledge acquired previously, which is why competence arrives here without the training that would explain it. Whatever one makes of the metaphysics, the practical shape is the same, and the useful consequence is that the missing part is usually the certification rather than the understanding.
Is Pushya not the most auspicious nakshatra?
It is generally regarded that way, and that describes the mansion rather than every graha in it. Ketu here gets the star’s nourishing and teaching subject and brings its own indifference to sanction, which is a workable tension rather than a spoiled placement.
Which pada of Ketu in Pushya is strongest?
The question works differently for Ketu, since each quarter changes which character is being released. Pada 1 adds the Sun and is heard without a title, pada 2 adds Mercury and can document what it knows, pada 3 adds Venus and delivers care through relationship, and pada 4 adds Mars and goes deepest.
Does Ketu in Pushya mean Kaal Sarp?
No. Kaal Sarp concerns the arrangement of every planet in relation to the nodal axis and is a whole-chart condition, so no nakshatra placement establishes it. The Kaal Sarp Dosha complete guide sets out how it is actually assessed.
What careers suit Ketu in Pushya?
Teaching in whatever subject the placement actually holds, the traditional and transmitted disciplines, nursing and care work, the nourishment trades, medicine for the second pada, and psychotherapy or clinical work for the fourth.
What remedies suit Ketu in Pushya?
Tuesday observance with Saturday, Monday and Thursday as natural seconds, the salutations Om Ketave Namah and Om Brihaspataye Namah, and Ganesha worship where a household keeps it. Guru Pushya yoga is worth using to begin a formal course of study. The seva that fits is feeding people anonymously. The most useful discipline is unritual, obtaining the qualification in order to be permitted rather than to learn. Gemstones follow the whole chart’s need and never a single placement, and cat’s eye in particular is never worn on a one-line rule.
