At what age will I go abroad is among the most asked questions in this whole subject, and the popular answers to it, 27 for everyone, or after 32, or whenever Rahu matures, share one defect: they hand the same age to every chart, and the Vimshottari system does not work that way. Your sequence starts from your birth nakshatra, which means the planet whose period you were born into, and therefore the age at which every later period arrives, is personal. Two charts with identical settlement yogas can receive their executing window at twenty-four and at fifty-one, and both are on time.
So this page does the honest version of the age question. First the personal clock, how to compute the ages your own windows arrive, which is a twenty-minute exercise. Then the universal clock, the transit returns that do land at the same ages for everyone, and the bands where the two clocks chime together. And then the part almost nobody integrates: the ages at which immigration systems themselves stop cooperating, because a window the chart opens at fifty-two meets a different set of doors than the same window at twenty-eight.

The personal clock
The dasha sequence is fixed at birth: the Moon’s nakshatra names the first mahadasha and how much of it remains, and everything after follows in order, Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, at 7, 20, 6, 10, 7, 18, 16, 19 and 17 years respectively. The consequence for the age question is total. A child born with three years of Mars remaining meets Rahu’s eighteen years from age three to twenty-one, and if Rahu sits on the foreign axis, the entire youth is the window. A child born at the start of Venus meets the same Rahu at fifty-three.
This is why the honest answer to at what age is always: at the ages your significators take their periods, and those ages are computable today for the rest of the life. The pairings guide defines which stretches count as executing windows; this page’s method section turns them into a list of ages. The sequence reference carries the arithmetic for every pairing.
The universal clock
Three transit cycles do arrive at nearly the same ages for everyone, because they are the planets returning to their own natal places, and they are the legitimate core inside the folk beliefs about magic ages.
The nodal return, around 18 to 19, and again near 37 and 56: Rahu and Ketu back on their birth axis. Where the natal nodes touch the settlement houses, these are the ages the axis reactivates, and the first return sits exactly where modern life puts the study-abroad decision, which is not a coincidence the tradition would be surprised by.
The Jupiter returns, near 12, 24, 36, 48 and 60: expansion revisiting its own promises. The returns at 24 and 36 fall inside the working decades and mark years when the enabler’s business, admissions, offers, sponsorships, comes back around for charts where Jupiter carries the axis.
The Saturn return, around 29 to 30, and the second near 58 to 59: the great restructuring. The first return dismantles and rebuilds the life’s scaffolding, and an extraordinary share of first migrations ride it, the move that finally happens after the twenties spent circling it. The second return asks the settlement question in reverse, stay, return home, or join the children, and the stay or return analysis picks that thread up.
Sade Sati runs on the same Saturn cycle, so its displacement-heavy first phase recurs about every 29 to 30 years, but its ages are personal, set by the gap between natal Saturn and the Moon: one chart meets its first phase at nine, another at twenty-six, and only the second gets a migration window out of it. The Sade Sati guide shows how to find your own dates.
The ages that matter most are where the clocks chime together: a personal executing pairing that happens to contain a Saturn return, a nodal return landing inside a foreign mahadasha. Those overlaps are the strongest age-markers this method produces, and they are different for every chart, which is the whole point.
The age bands and what each favours
With the two clocks in hand, the recognisable bands look like this. None of them promises anything; each names the triggers available in it and the route it structurally favours.
| Band | Universal triggers in it | Route it favours |
|---|---|---|
| 17 to 21 | First nodal return | The student departure; the 9th house doing its purest work |
| 23 to 26 | Second Jupiter return | The first work posting, the admission that converts to a job |
| 28 to 31 | First Saturn return | The restructuring migration; the move the twenties circled finally lands |
| 35 to 38 | Third Jupiter return, second nodal return | The established-professional move, family in tow; also the last comfortable years for points systems |
| 45 to 55 | Fourth Jupiter return | Investor, ancestry and employer-transfer routes; skilled queues largely closed |
| 56 to 62 | Second Saturn return, third nodal return | The reunification migration, joining the children; or the return home |
Where the chart meets the visa rules
Here is the integration almost no astrological treatment makes, and the one that changes real decisions. Immigration systems are themselves age-graded. The points frameworks, Canada’s Express Entry with its CRS score, Australia’s skilled visas, several European lists, award their maximum age points through the twenties and early thirties and then dock them steadily; several skilled streams effectively close in the mid-forties. Student routes assume the student ages. Family sponsorship and ancestry claims, by contrast, barely care how old you are, and investor routes prefer you older and funded.
So the chart’s window and the law’s window have to overlap, and reading them together is the actual skill. An executing pairing at twenty-nine rides the skilled queues at full points. The same pairing arriving at fifty-two is not weaker astrologically, and it opens onto a different corridor: the employer transfer, the ancestry claim, the investor stream, the marriage route, the sponsored parent. Charts do not fail by being late; strategies fail by aiming a late window at a young person’s door. The failure modes page has a version of this as the wrong-window error; this is its wrong-door cousin.
The practical rule: compute the ages of your windows first, then choose the route that is actually open at those ages, and let go of the one the internet default assumes. The residency timing guide works the application-side detail.
Late windows are different, not dead
A word for the reader who has just computed their map and found the strong window at fifty-five, because the finding lands hard and should not.
The late-window migrations are a recognised class with their own textures, and the planet-led profiles already described most of them: the Moon-led reunification, parents sponsored by the children they educated abroad; the Venus-led late marriage that relocates a settled life; the Jupiter-led emeritus appointment; the Saturn-led retirement to a country served for decades from a distance. These moves complete at high rates precisely because the machinery carrying them, family sponsorship, accumulated capital, ancestry, does not examine a points table. What they ask instead is the honest Chandra-side question, whether the mind still wants the move it wanted at thirty, and the 12th from the Moon reading matters more at this end of life than anywhere else.
Computing your own age map
The whole exercise, in order. Open the dasha tree in the kundali calculator and note the calendar years of every mahadasha and antardasha belonging to your significator set, the 12th and 9th lords, the occupants of those houses, Rahu on the axis, exchange partners. Subtract your birth year from each and you have the ages of your personal windows, first list. Then write beside them the universal ages, 18-19, 24, 29-30, 36-37, 48, 56-59, second list. The ages where the lists touch are your marked years, and there are usually two to four of them in a working lifetime. Then, for each marked age, name the route the law keeps open at that age, and the map is done: age, window strength, and door, on one page. Past marked ages that produced nothing deserve the post-mortem before future ones are trusted.
Questions people ask
At what age will I go abroad according to my kundli?
At the ages your foreign significators take their periods, which are set by your birth nakshatra and are different for every chart. The universal transit returns, nodal at 18-19, Saturn at 29-30, Jupiter every 12 years, mark the shared trigger ages, and your strongest years are where a personal window contains one of them. There is no single age that applies to everyone, whatever the lists claim.
Is 27 to 30 really the age of foreign settlement?
It is the first Saturn return band, a genuine restructuring window in every life, and a large share of first migrations do ride it. It delivers abroad only for charts whose settlement structure and running pairing agree; for the rest it restructures something else, work, marriage, residence within the country.
Can foreign settlement happen after 40?
Regularly, and through different doors: employer transfers, ancestry claims, investor streams, marriage, and later the family reunification route. What thins after the mid-thirties is the points-based skilled corridor specifically, so a late window is aimed at the routes that stay open rather than the one the internet assumes.
My strongest window comes at 55. Is it useless?
It is a different window, not a dead one. The late migrations, joining children, retirement moves, late marriages, ancestry claims, complete at high rates because their machinery ignores age points. The question that matters at that end is the Chandra-side one, whether the mind still wants the move, and that deserves its own honest reading.
Does Sade Sati decide the age of going abroad?
Its first phase is a displacement window and its ages are personal, fixed by where natal Saturn stands from your Moon; it recurs roughly every 29 to 30 years. A first phase landing in the late teens or twenties inside a supporting pairing is a classic migration setup; the same phase at nine or at sixty reads entirely differently.
What happens at the Rahu return at 18 or 19?
The nodal axis reactivates, and where the natal nodes touch the 12th or 9th, the foreign question switches on, which is why the study-abroad decision so often crystallises exactly then. The second return near 37 revisits the same axis with adult resources, and it is a common age for the established-professional move.
Do visa systems really care about age?
The points frameworks do, explicitly: maximum age points run through the twenties and early thirties and decline after, and several skilled streams effectively close in the mid-forties. Family, ancestry, investor and marriage routes largely do not. Reading your chart’s ages against the routes’ ages is the practical half of this whole question.
Can I find my child’s study-abroad age from their chart?
The same method applies: the ages of the 9th and 5th lord periods, read against the first nodal return band. It forecasts the window in which the education departure is supported, which helps with planning; it does not choose the course or the country, and it should not be used to pressure a child toward either.
Two people have the same yoga. Why did one move at 25 and the other at 50?
Their birth nakshatras started the sequence at different points, so the same significators took their periods at different ages. The yoga is the promise; the sequence is the calendar; the calendar is personal.
Is there any age after which settlement is impossible?
No astrological one. Specific legal corridors close, points streams especially, and others open with age, and the reunification migrations of the sixties are among the most reliably completed moves there are. Impossible is a word for doors, not for charts.
My window passed at 31 and I did not move. Is it over?
Run the post-mortem on that window first, which mode ate it, then read the map forward: most charts hold two to four marked ages, and the next one is answered with a different route if the skilled corridor has meanwhile aged out. A spent window is information, not a verdict.
How accurate are the ages, given dasha depends on birth time?
Mahadasha ages are robust to ordinary rounding; the balance at birth shifts by months, not years, for small time errors. Antardasha edges move by weeks, and the fine level below that leans on the recorded time, where rectification earns its keep if the month matters.
How do I compute all of this quickly?
The kundali calculator gives the dasha tree in calendar years, which subtracting your birth year turns into ages, and the significator list to mark. The universal ages are the same for everyone and are listed above; the overlaps are your map.
Want this read in your own chart?
Reading your own chart is good for learning and unreliable for deciding, and the age map is where the stakes of misreading are highest, because a wrong age costs a decade of aiming at the wrong door, and the right age, known early, changes which degrees get taken and which offers get held.
Send me your birth details and your questions on WhatsApp. I can usually take the call the same day, and if there is no slot free we will arrange a time that suits you. It runs 30 to 40 minutes by voice, in English, Hindi or Punjabi, and you can follow up by message afterwards. I do not tell people which country to move to, because a chart does not say that.
