When Birth Time Is Unknown
Health analysis ideally uses the natal chart, but accurate birth time is not always available. Horary astrology provides an alternative: casting a chart for the moment of asking, which requires no birth data.
Medical horary can address urgent health questions when natal analysis is not possible.
How Medical Horary Works
In KP Horary:
The querent (person asking) provides a number between 1 and 249.
This number determines the Ascendant degree for the horary chart.
The chart is cast for the moment the astrologer receives the question.
Analysis follows standard KP house and Sub-Lord principles applied to the horary chart.
The chart reflects the answer to the specific question asked at that moment.
Common Medical Horary Questions
“Will I recover from this illness?”
The 11th cusp Sub-Lord indicates cure. If it signifies 5th and 11th (recovery houses), recovery is indicated. If it signifies 6th, 8th, 12th, recovery faces challenges.
“Is the diagnosis correct?”
The 6th house represents the disease. Examine the 6th cusp Sub-Lord’s significations. Conflicting significations may suggest the diagnosis needs review.
“Should I have the surgery?”
The 8th house represents surgery. If the 8th cusp Sub-Lord signifies 8th with 5th and 11th (surgery leading to recovery), surgery is supported. If it signifies 8th with 12th without 11th, caution is warranted.
“Will this treatment help?”
The 6th house represents treatment/service. The 11th represents gains from treatment. If 6th cusp Sub-Lord connects to 11th, the treatment may help.
“When will I recover?”
If recovery is indicated, examine when recovery houses (5th, 11th) are activated. Ruling Planets can suggest timing.
House Assignments in Medical Horary
1st house: The querent (patient). Their body and vitality in the situation.
6th house: The disease, illness, treatment protocol, healthcare providers.
7th house: The doctor (as the “other” party). Also used for questions about others’ health.
8th house: Surgery, crisis, transformation, danger.
11th house: Cure, recovery, gain of health.
12th house: Hospitalization, expenses, complications.
Questions About Others
When asking about someone else’s health, rotate the houses:
Spouse’s health: 7th house becomes their 1st. Their 6th (disease) is your 12th. Their 11th (recovery) is your 5th.
Child’s health: 5th house becomes their 1st. Rotate accordingly.
Parent’s health: 4th (mother) or 9th (father) becomes their 1st.

Limitations of Medical Horary
Medical horary has specific limitations:
It cannot diagnose: Horary cannot name specific diseases. It addresses whether recovery will happen, not what the disease is.
It does not replace medical care: A horary indicating “recovery” does not mean skip treatment. Medical care is essential regardless of horary results.
Serious questions require care: Questions about life-threatening conditions require sensitive handling. See ethics of prediction.
The question must be genuine: Horary works when there is a genuine urge to know. Testing or trivial questions may not produce valid charts.
Sample Analysis
Question: “Will my father recover from his surgery?”
Father = 9th house (becomes his 1st).
Father’s surgery = 4th house (8th from 9th).
Father’s recovery = 7th house (11th from 9th).
Analyze: Is the 7th cusp Sub-Lord signifying houses favorable for recovery (from the rotated perspective)? If yes, recovery is indicated.
Timing in Medical Horary
Timing recovery uses:
Ruling Planets: RPs at the question moment may indicate when events occur.
Transit triggers: When transiting Moon or other planets aspect recovery significators, improvement may manifest.
House-based timing: Some traditions use house positions to suggest days, weeks, or months.
Timing in horary is less precise than natal Dasha timing but can provide useful guidance.
Multiple Questions
Each horary question should have its own chart:
If asking multiple health questions, ideally ask them separately with different numbers.
Combining too many questions in one chart dilutes accuracy.
Prioritize the most important question for horary analysis.
Repeated Questions
Asking the same question repeatedly hoping for different answers does not work:
The first sincere question typically produces the valid chart.
Repeated questions within short periods reflect anxiety, not new situations.
Wait for circumstances to genuinely change before asking again.
Combining with Available Information
If partial birth information is available:
Use it along with horary for more comprehensive analysis.
Horary can address specific questions while partial natal data provides background.
Even approximate birth data can indicate Dasha periods, which horary alone cannot.
When to Use Medical Horary
Medical horary is most useful when:
Birth time is genuinely unknown or unreliable.
A specific urgent question needs answering.
The natal chart gives ambiguous results for a particular question.
Confirming natal analysis with a horary cross-check.
Ethical Practice
Medical horary requires ethical handling:
Do not predict death or guarantee recovery.
Frame results as indications, not certainties.
Always encourage professional medical care.
Handle serious health questions with compassion and care.
Remember that the person asking is often anxious and vulnerable.
