Change the ascendant and the money changes hands. For an Aries lagna the second and eleventh houses belong to Venus and Saturn; for Gemini they belong to the Moon and Mars; for Leo and Aquarius one planet holds both, and the whole wealth reading turns on it. This is why a reading that says “Jupiter gives wealth” is wrong for two-thirds of the people who hear it, and why the first thing a wealth reading does is look at the lagna and write down two planets. Why the ascendant decides the money planets
Houses are counted from the ascendant, and each house is a sign, and each sign has a ruler. So the planet that rules what is kept and the planet that rules what is gained are fixed the moment the lagna is known, and they are the two planets a wealth reading is about before any natural significator is considered. Jupiter is the natural significator of wealth in every chart, and it blesses the money houses in every chart, but it rules a money house for only three ascendants, Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius; for the other nine the money belongs to other planets, and an exalted Jupiter gives those natives wisdom, children and faith while Venus or Mercury or Saturn gives them the money. The table is therefore the first page of every wealth reading, and the placements of the two planets it names are the second.

The easy pairs: friends, or one planet
Six ascendants have money lords that agree. Leo and Aquarius have one planet for both houses, Mercury and Jupiter respectively, and their wealth reading is the cleanest in the zodiac: one planet, one dignity to check, one period in which income and accumulation arrive together. Aries and Sagittarius have Venus and Saturn, natural friends, which form the Dhana yoga readily and give money that starts as comfort and ends as land. Six ascendants have money lords that are uneasy or enemies, and their money comes from two directions that do not always agree. Cancer has the Sun and Venus, enemies: position on one side and comfort on the other, and the native often earns through authority and enjoys through partnership, the two rarely in the same period. Virgo has Venus and the Moon, uneasy: the arts and the public, income that flows and is spent. Taurus and Scorpio have Mercury and Jupiter in opposite roles, uneasy: trade against judgment, the merchant’s money and the adviser’s money in one life. Aries, Taurus and Gemini

The yogakaraka’s money
Six ascendants have a yogakaraka, a planet ruling both a kendra and a trikona: Mars for Cancer and Leo, Saturn for Taurus and Libra, Venus for Capricorn and Aquarius. The yogakaraka is not a money lord, but its period brings status, and status in most lives is paid, so that the yogakaraka’s period is the second wealth window for those six lagnas after the money lords’ own. A worked chart: Capricorn’s hardest pair builds a fortune
A Capricorn lagna chart, particulars altered. Saturn, lord of the lagna and the second, sits in Capricorn, its own sign, in the lagna, with Mars, lord of the fourth and eleventh, exalted there: the two money lords together in the ascendant, both in dignity, forming the Dhana yoga of the hardest pair, and forming at the same time Sasa and Ruchaka, two of the great-person yogas, in the same house. The Moon, lord of the seventh, is in Cancer, its own sign, in the seventh. The Sun, lord of the eighth, is in Leo, its own sign, in the eighth. Mercury, lord of the sixth and ninth, is in Leo with the Sun. Jupiter, lord of the third and twelfth, is in Gemini in the sixth. Venus, the yogakaraka, is debilitated in Virgo in the ninth. Rahu is in Taurus in the fifth, Ketu in Scorpio in the eleventh.
Read it by the table. The money comes through land, labour and force, and the pair that is enemies by nature is conjunct in dignity in the lagna, which is the one arrangement in which Saturn and Mars stop contesting and build. The leak, Jupiter as twelfth lord, sits in the sixth, a Vipreet formation that turns giving into gain from others’ difficulty. The yogakaraka is debilitated, so the status came late and the money came first. Ketu on the eleventh releases some gains without grief.
He is a mason’s son who owns a construction firm, and the money arrived in Mars’s period, the exalted eleventh lord’s seven years, from his thirtieth to his thirty-seventh: the first contracts, the first land bought with the profits, the Dhana yoga delivering through Mars’s half. Rahu’s period, Rahu in the fifth, took the firm to scale through speculative building, Rahu’s kind of gain, with one Ketu sub-period in which a project was written off. Jupiter’s period, the twelfth lord in the sixth, running now, gives through the Vipreet channel: distressed sites bought cheaply, and a great deal given away, which he can afford. Saturn’s period, the second lord’s own, does not come until his seventies, and the reading has said what it will do: fix the whole of it in land. The chart is a two-source chart of the hardest pair, and it built more than most easy pairs do, because the two lords were in dignity together and their periods fell in the working years.
