Somewhere in a search box you typed foreign settlement yoga, or videsh yatra yoga, or yoga for settling abroad in kundli, and most of what came back was a list of names with no way to check whether your chart actually has any of them. This page is the list done properly: every combination that genuinely carries settlement, what each one needs before it delivers, the denial conditions that stop them, and the popular entries that do not belong on the list at all.
One frame before the list, because it is the difference between using these yogas and being used by them. The names are shorthand. Each one compresses a checkable condition, this lord here, that connection there, and the name adds nothing to the condition. A kundli does not have or lack videsh yoga the way it has or lacks a Moon sign; it has specific lords in specific states, and the honest question is always which conditions are present and how strongly, never what the combination is called.

The combinations that carry settlement
1. The 9th lord and 12th lord connected. The core of the entire subject: the lord of long journeys joined to the lord of foreign residence, by placement in each other’s houses, by conjunction, or by exchange. When people say a chart has strong foreign settlement yoga, some form of this is usually what they are looking at. The four forms and their differences are the subject of the 9th and 12th lord connection guide, and the single placement that leads the family, the 9th lord in the 12th house, has its own page.
2. A Parivartana involving the 12th. The exchange of signs between the 12th lord and the lord of the 9th, 4th, 10th, 7th or 1st is the strongest single mechanism on this list, permanent, reciprocal, and timing-friendly. Classically graded Dainya, delivering with a price, and treated in full in the Parivartana and settlement guide.
3. The 4th lord in the 12th, or the 4th and 12th lords joined. The release combination. Home itself is located elsewhere, so the base that holds most people simply is not holding this chart. Often overlooked because it involves neither the 9th nor Rahu, and among the most reliable signatures in settled emigrants’ charts. The 4th lord in the 12th covers the placement, and the 4th house release analysis the mechanism.
4. Rahu joined to the 12th house axis. Rahu in the 12th, Rahu with the 12th lord, or Rahu aspecting the 12th from its own station pulls the life toward the unfamiliar and the foreign, and it is the single most cited entry on every popular videsh yoga list. Genuine, and neither necessary nor sufficient on its own, a distinction the Rahu and foreign settlement guide and the Rahu in the 12th house page keep straight.
5. The lagna lord in the 12th, or the 12th lord in the lagna. The self and elsewhere joined: identity is built abroad, and the native is frequently more themselves away from the birthplace than in it. The 1st lord in the 12th and the 12th lord in the 1st read the two directions.
6. The 12th lord strong in its own house. A dignified 12th lord in the 12th, the Vimala combination, gives the house a solvent owner-occupier. It is quieter than the connections above and it converts other indications efficiently: charts with Vimala plus any journey combination complete their moves with unusual economy. The 12th lord in the 12th house page covers its forms.
7. The Chandra-side activation. The 12th counted from the Moon occupied or well-ruled, the mind’s own consent to departure. Alone it produces longing rather than movement; combined with any lagna-side entry above it is the difference between an emigration that holds and one that aches. The 12th from the Moon guide is the full treatment.
8. The Jaimini confirmations. The Atmakaraka connected to the 12th or 9th, or the 12th from Karakamsha active, marks the foreign as soul-level business rather than circumstance. A second system agreeing with the first is worth more than either alone, and the Jaimini pages of this cluster develop the method.
The ninth entry is not a combination at all, and it outranks the eight above it: a dasha long enough to contain the move. Every yoga on this list is a standing promise, and promises are honoured in periods. A chart with modest combinations and eighteen years of Rahu can out-emigrate a chart with three yogas and no supporting period in sight, which is why which dasha gives foreign settlement is the page to read immediately after this one.
Each yoga and what it needs before it delivers
| Combination | What it supplies | What it still needs |
|---|---|---|
| 9th-12th lords connected | Journey fused to residence | Both lords solvent, D9 support, the 4th’s release, a period |
| Parivartana with the 12th | Permanent two-house fusion | Either lord’s substantial period; tolerance for the Dainya price |
| 4th lord in the 12th | The base’s release | A journey combination to ride; otherwise it releases without moving |
| Rahu on the 12th axis | Appetite for the unfamiliar | A structural combination underneath; Rahu alone is hunger, not housing |
| Lagna lord in the 12th | The self relocated | A strong enough lagna lord to build abroad rather than dissolve there |
| Vimala (12th lord in 12th) | A solvent house of residence | A journey trigger; it converts movement, it does not generate it |
| Chandra-side 12th active | The mind’s consent | A lagna-side combination; alone it is longing |
| Jaimini confirmations | Soul-level persistence | The Parashari structure it confirms |
The denial conditions
A list of yogas without the denials is half a method, and the denials here are as specific as the promises.
A weak 12th lord. Combust, retrograde in an unfriendly sign, in Bala or Mrita avastha, or under its shadbala requirement. This single condition converts every yoga above into the incomplete pattern, exposure and offers without consolidation, that the travel versus settlement page describes, and it is the commonest denial by a distance.
The gilded 4th. A dignified 4th lord in a kendra, benefics on the base, property and family that genuinely work. Nothing is afflicted and nothing leaves; the base outbids the combination year after year. The move, when it eventually comes, arrives through marriage, career or the children rather than through the yoga acting alone.
No period long enough. The significators take their dashas at seventy, or for eleven months, or not at all in the working decades. The yoga is real and the calendar never opens. This is the denial that hurts most in consultation, because nothing is wrong with the chart except the schedule.
The D9 collapse. Lords that look serviceable in the rasi and fall apart in the Navamsa underdeliver on precisely this kind of long-arc promise. A settlement reading that has not checked the D9 has not finished.
Where several denials stack, the honest reading is the one given in signs that settlement is not indicated: the chart supports a life built at home, journeys included, and knowing that early is a gift rather than a sentence.
What is not a settlement yoga
Four entries appear on popular lists and do not survive contact with settled emigrants’ charts.
A strong 9th house alone. The best-travelled people in any family carry this, and most of them live at home. Journeys are the 9th’s own promise, kept in full by the travelling itself; the 9th house guide draws the line properly.
Ketu anywhere, read alone. Ketu detaches; it does not house. A Ketu-marked base leaves easily and still needs somewhere to go, which is the 12th’s business, not Ketu’s.
Malefics in the 12th read as foreign exile. A Saturn or Mars in the 12th is a placement with its own full reading, expenditure, isolation, the bed, the feet, and treating every such chart as a future emigrant flattens a rich house into one keyword.
The watery-signs rule. The claim that Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces on certain cusps sends people across the seas is atmosphere, not method. Sign flavour colours how a combination behaves; it is never the combination.
Why your yoga has not worked yet
The question every list-reader arrives with, and it has exactly four answers, checked in order. The period has not come: look at the dasha sequence for the significators’ next substantial run, because most unfired yogas are simply waiting. The lords are weak: dignity, combustion, avastha, shadbala, and then the D9, which is where serviceable-looking promises quietly fail. The 4th is outbidding it: read the base honestly, including the property and the parents, and ask what would actually reweight it. Or the yoga was never there: a wide aspect counted as a conjunction, a travel indicator counted as a residence one, hope doing the arithmetic. The four checks take an evening with the kundali calculator, and they end the guessing either way.
Questions people ask
Which yoga is responsible for foreign settlement?
No single one. The working combinations are the 9th and 12th lords connected, a Parivartana involving the 12th, the 4th lord in the 12th releasing the base, Rahu on the 12th axis, the lagna lord in the 12th, and a strong Vimala converting movement into residence. Most settled emigrants carry two or three of these together, activated by a long supporting dasha.
What is videsh yatra yoga in a kundli?
An umbrella name for the combinations above, and worth splitting in two: the yatra half, journeys, belongs to the 9th house and fires constantly; the settlement half belongs to the 12th and the 4th. A kundli can hold the travel side of the name in full and the residence side not at all, which is the commonest reason the label disappoints.
How do I check foreign settlement yoga in my kundli?
Four steps: identify your 9th and 12th lords and look for any of the four connection forms; check the 4th lord’s placement, especially for the 12th; note Rahu’s house; then weigh every planet involved, dignity, combustion, avastha, shadbala, and its D9 standing. The conditions are all mechanical, and the calculator computes each one.
Is Rahu compulsory for foreign settlement?
No. Rahu is the most cited indicator and the least structural: it supplies appetite for the unfamiliar, not the residence. Settlement happens regularly on the 9-12 and 4-12 combinations with Rahu uninvolved, and Rahu alone, without those structures, gives foreign hunger that travel satisfies.
I have videsh yoga in my kundli but no results. Why?
Four answers cover nearly every case: the supporting period has not arrived; the lords involved are weak in the rasi or collapse in the Navamsa; a strong 4th house is outbidding the combination; or the yoga was generously counted in the first place. Check them in that order, because the first is the commonest and the most fixable by waiting well.
Which is the strongest foreign settlement yoga?
The Parivartana between the 12th lord and a structural lord, the 9th, 4th, 10th or 7th, because it is permanent, activates from either planet’s period, and fuses the two houses rather than merely linking them. Its Dainya grading names a real price, expenditure and distance, and its delivery record among settled charts is the best on the list.
Is there a yoga for a Green Card or PR specifically?
No combination distinguishes a Green Card from Canadian permanent residency from Indefinite Leave to Remain; those are legal instruments, and the chart carries the condition and the timing underneath them, residence abroad supported or not, in this period or that. The timing pages of this cluster cover how to place an application inside a supported window.
Can a foreign settlement yoga be cancelled?
Denied is the better word, and the denial conditions are listed above: a weak 12th lord, a gilded 4th, no substantial period, a D9 collapse. None of them erases the combination; they leave it standing without the means to execute, which is why the same yoga delivers in one chart and gestures in another.
At what age does foreign settlement yoga give results?
At whatever age the supporting dasha arrives, which is the honest answer and the whole answer. The combinations set no age; the sequence does. Two charts with identical yogas can move at twenty-two and fifty-five because Rahu or the 12th lord took their periods forty years apart.
Does a strong 9th house count as settlement yoga?
It counts as travel yoga, which is its own genuine promise. The 9th supplies journeys, education abroad and the first landing; residence is the 12th’s department, and reading the 9th’s strength as a settlement guarantee is the single most repeated error in the popular lists.
My kundli has none of these yogas. Is going abroad impossible?
No, and the distinction matters: absent combinations mean no strong standing promise, not a prohibition. People move on ordinary means, marriage, work, family sponsorship, during decent periods, with more effort and less inevitability. What a quiet chart mainly predicts is that the question will not press on you the way it presses on yoga-marked charts.
Do these yogas also show in the Navamsa?
The D9 is the strength check rather than a second list: combinations whose planets hold or improve in the Navamsa deliver, and ones whose planets collapse there underperform their rasi appearance. A settlement reading finishes in the D9 or it is not finished.
How do I check all of this at once?
The kundali calculator lists your 9th, 12th and 4th lords with their connections, Rahu’s position, every dignity, avastha and shadbala figure, the D9 positions, and the full dasha tree, which is the complete checklist of this page in one computed view.
Want this read in your own chart?
Reading your own chart is good for learning and unreliable for deciding, and yoga lists are where self-reading is least reliable of all, because a list invites ticking, and hope ticks generously. Whether a combination exists is mechanical; whether it can deliver, and when, is judgement.
Send me your birth details and your questions on WhatsApp. I can usually take the call the same day, and if there is no slot free we will arrange a time that suits you. It runs 30 to 40 minutes by voice, in English, Hindi or Punjabi, and you can follow up by message afterwards. I do not tell people which country to move to, because a chart does not say that.
