Ketu in Anuradha means Ketu was placed between 3 degrees 20 minutes and 16 degrees 40 minutes of Scorpio at your birth, in the seventeenth nakshatra, ruled by Saturn and presided over by Mitra, the friend. Scorpio belongs to Mars, whose manner the classical dictum already assigns to this graha, so the martial character arrives doubled and is then concentrated and released. Mitra’s portfolio is worth stating precisely, since he governs friendship as a sacred bond, the alliance chosen rather than inherited, and Ketu is the graha that needs nobody. What that combination produces is not coldness. It is something more particular and considerably easier to miss. What follows is what it masters and what it empties, the four padas, career, money, detachment, health and practices.
Ketu in Anuradha sits entirely within Scorpio, so the Ketu in Scorpio reading gives the sign-level terrain and this page sharpens it to the star. The star’s own reference for any planet placed here lives at the Anuradha nakshatra guide.

Confirm the placement before reading. The checker returns Ketu’s exact nakshatra and pada from the Swiss Ephemeris along with every other graha, and flags a planet close enough to a boundary that birth-time error could move it. Note that this site uses the mean node throughout, and that Ketu always sits exactly opposite Rahu.

On reading Ketu
Ketu is not read the way the seven grahas are, and stating why makes this page usable rather than mystifying.
It has no physical body. Rahu and Ketu are the two points where the Moon’s path crosses the Sun’s, which is why they are always exactly opposite and why they move backward through the zodiac permanently. The tradition calls them chhaya grahas, shadow planets, and depicts them as the two halves of a severed asura, Rahu the head and Ketu the trunk.
Like Rahu, Ketu has no nature of its own and takes the character of the planet ruling the sign it occupies. What it does with that character is the opposite. Rahu enlarges what it finds, and Ketu concentrates it and then withdraws, which produces the pattern the tradition calls mastery without appetite. The classical dictum also holds that Ketu behaves like Mars, which matters here since Mars is also the dispositor.
On exaltation the texts disagree, with Scorpio, Sagittarius and Taurus each supported by a substantial tradition, and this star sits in Scorpio, so you will find this placement described as exalted in some sources and debilitated in others. This site does not treat the question as settled and reads sign placement through the dispositor instead. On Kaal Sarp, that is a whole-chart condition, set out properly in the Kaal Sarp Dosha complete guide.
The star through Ketu
Mitra is one of the Adityas and the word itself became the ordinary term for friend across several languages. What he presides over is not affection but the bond, the alliance entered by choice and honoured because it was entered, which is why he is invoked alongside Varuna in the oldest hymns as the pair who hold agreements together.
Anuradha’s name means following Radha, and the mansion’s subject is what is achieved through cooperation rather than through force. Saturn rules the star, adding endurance, and Mars holds the sign as dispositor with the graha already sharing its manner.
Now the arrangement. Ketu removes the appetite from whatever it concentrates, and what it concentrates here is the capacity for the chosen bond. The capacity survives entirely. The need does not.
What that produces is a person who is a genuinely good friend and does not require friends. The loyalty is real, the attention is real, the willingness to turn up is real, and underneath all of it there is no corresponding sense of needing anybody in return.
The consequence is an asymmetry that this placement is generally the last to notice, since people become considerably closer to it than it becomes to them.
The Ketu in Anuradha nature
| Span | 3°20′ to 16°40′ Scorpio | Star lord | Saturn |
| Dispositor | Mars, whose manner Ketu shares in any case | Deity | Mitra, the friend |
| Symbol | The lotus, the staff | Signature | Loyal, deep, self-sufficient |
Constancy is the first signature. Friendships last decades here without maintenance, absence does not damage them, and the person who calls after eight years is answered as though it were eight days, which is Saturn and Mitra working together under a graha that keeps no ledger.
Depth is the second, from Scorpio and Mars doubled. Nothing is superficial here, so what this placement engages with it engages with completely, and people sense that immediately.
Capacity for devotion is the third, and it is the real gift. Bhakti offered without wanting anything in return is the purest form the tradition describes, and it is difficult for almost everyone precisely because there is usually something being asked for. Here there is not.
The strains follow the asymmetry. The unrecognised place comes first and it is the central work, since this placement occupies a far larger position in other people’s lives than they occupy in its own, and it has no way of knowing that from the inside. Moves are made, contact lapses, a job is taken in another country, and the decision is calculated against what the person themselves would lose, which is very little. What the other party loses is not in the calculation at all, because it does not register as a category. Its correction is the acknowledged place, working from their scale rather than yours, which means asking rather than estimating, since your estimate of what you are to somebody is reliably and considerably too low.
The undisclosed interior is second, from Scorpio under this graha, where the whole inner life is held privately without any sense that this is unusual, answered by one person told what is actually happening.
The unstated need is third, since a person who needs nothing asks for nothing and is therefore never given anything, answered by one request made deliberately. And the abrupt severance is fourth, from Mars doubled, answered by the departure announced before it happens.
What it masters, what it empties
Ketu concentrates a thing and then withdraws from it, and both halves are the placement rather than one being a fault in the other.
What it masters here is the durable bond. This placement’s friendships and working alliances survive decades, distance, silence and disagreement, largely because nothing in them depends on being fed.
It masters presence at depth as well, since it can go with somebody into the worst part of their situation and neither flinch nor need the situation improved.
What it empties is the requirement. Nobody is needed, nothing is asked, and no reciprocity is expected or tracked.
It empties the perception of its own importance to others too, which is where the difficulty in this page actually lives.
The corrective is what Mitra actually governs, which is a bond rather than a disposition. A bond has two ends and it is not the same object viewed from each. This placement can read its own end accurately and cannot read the other, and a graha that keeps no account has no mechanism for discovering the discrepancy on its own. Asking is the mechanism. There is no substitute for it here. Natives running a Ketu mahadasha feel both halves at full strength, and timing belongs to the dashas rather than to the placement alone.
Male and female charts
Ketu in Anuradha in a man’s chart
The pattern usually shows as a steady, private man with a small number of very long friendships, often in demanding or clinical work, who is genuinely relied upon and does not experience himself as central to anybody. He turns up. His watches are the move or the lapse decided on his own reckoning of the cost, which leaves out what it costs the other party entirely, and the interior life nobody has been shown. His corrections are asking what he is to somebody rather than estimating it, and one person told what is actually going on.
Ketu in Anuradha in a female chart
The same constancy and depth appear, and she is frequently the person several people privately consider their closest friend without her having any sense of holding that position. Her loyalty is long and unconditional. Her watches are the same unread asymmetry, and the need never stated, which in her case compounds an environment already inclined to assume she requires nothing. This page’s position is that a request made deliberately is information others need rather than an imposition. Her corrections are the question asked directly, and one thing asked for.
The four padas of Ketu in Anuradha
Mars is the dispositor throughout, and each quarter is further read by the ruler of its navamsa, which is the secondary character being concentrated and released. The navamsa calculator renders the full chart.
Pada 1: 3°20′ to 6°40′ Scorpio, Leo navamsa
The commanding quarter. The Sun rules the navamsa, so authority and presence attach to the loyalty, producing someone who can lead a group and be trusted by it without needing its approval. Strong for institutional leadership, the services and clinical seniority. The watch is the position held with no personal stake, which those depending on it can mistake for indifference, and the correction is the commitment stated aloud.
Pada 2: 6°40′ to 10°00′ Scorpio, Virgo navamsa
The exacting quarter. Mercury rules the navamsa, so analysis and method attach to the depth, which makes this the pada that investigates properly and documents what it finds. Strong for medicine, research and forensic work. The watch is the standard applied to people who were already struggling, and the correction is the pace matched to theirs.
Pada 3: 10°00′ to 13°20′ Scorpio, Libra navamsa
The relational quarter. Venus rules the navamsa, so social capability attaches to the constancy, which suits counselling, mediation and the professions where the bond is the working instrument. This is the pada where this page’s asymmetry is most visible, since the warmth is greatest and the need is equally absent. The correction is the question asked, taken most seriously in this quarter.
Pada 4: 13°20′ to 16°40′ Scorpio, Scorpio navamsa
The deepest quarter, and vargottama, Scorpio in both charts, so Mars is the character at both levels with the graha’s own martial dictum on top. Intensity, privacy and staying power with difficult material run at their fullest and the appetite attached is entirely gone. Strong for surgery, psychotherapy, investigation and the clinical work others will not do. The watch is the interior sealed completely, and the correction is one person given genuine access.
Career and work
Staying with somebody through the worst of a thing is the organising principle, so psychotherapy and long-term clinical care lead, where the work is a bond maintained over years and this placement neither burns out nor becomes entangled.
Medicine follows, particularly the specialties dealing with serious and chronic conditions, and the second pada supplies the rigour.
Research and investigation suit Scorpio and Mars doubled, in the fields where the material is hidden and the work is slow.
Contemplative and devotional vocations belong here genuinely, since this is among the few placements capable of sustained practice without wanting a result from it. The filter is depth and duration together, this Ketu performs where something is held for years and disengages from work that is transactional.
Money
The financial pattern is private and controlled, since Saturn’s lordship supplies restraint and this placement neither displays nor discusses what it has.
The leaks follow the unstated need. The unasked support is the first, where help that would be given freely is never requested, so difficulties are carried alone that a single conversation would have ended, and the correction is one request made deliberately, on the reasoning that people who value you are diminished rather than served by not being allowed to help.
Undercharging is second, since nothing is expected in return by temperament, answered by pricing against the market. And the unclaimed reciprocity is third, where favours given over years are never called in, answered by the plain recognition that a bond permits it.
Detachment
Ketu is the graha of release, so this series states plainly what each placement tends to withdraw from, on the principle that a named pattern is easier to work with than an unnamed one.
The detachment here is from needing anybody, which is the most easily misread form it takes in this series, because from the outside it looks like strength and from the inside it does not look like anything at all.
The important thing is that the giving side is fully intact. This placement is loyal, present and reliable over decades, and the friendships are genuine rather than performed. What is missing is only the return channel. Nothing is required, so nothing is asked, and the person has no felt sense of depending on anyone.
The cost is not loneliness, which would at least be noticed. It is the asymmetry, and specifically that this placement cannot see it. Several people will describe you as one of their closest friends and you will be surprised, and the surprise is the diagnostic. Decisions then get made on your own reckoning, a move, a silence, a withdrawal, and the arithmetic is honest and leaves out the largest term.
The correction is to stop estimating. Ask what you are to somebody, and act on their answer rather than your impression, because your impression is systematically low and no amount of reflection will correct it from the inside. The second half is to ask for something occasionally, which is not weakness and not a concession. It is the only way a bond becomes something the other person is also allowed to hold.
Health
Ketu is associated with conditions that are sudden, obscure or resistant to diagnosis, and with amplifying whatever the rest of the chart already indicates rather than with an organ of its own. Anuradha’s territory in the nakshatra purusha is the stomach and bowels, and Scorpio governs the reproductive and eliminative systems.
Digestion comes first, since that is where a placement that discloses nothing tends to put what it is carrying, and complaints that track difficult periods precisely are best read as signals rather than coincidences.
The Scorpio regions belong to the sign and are the ones people least readily raise with a doctor, which makes this a placement where routine screening earns its keep, since nothing here will force the conversation.
The practical note is that a person who asks for nothing does not ask for medical help either, and will carry a symptom for months on the reasoning that it is not serious enough to trouble anyone. Where a complaint has resisted explanation, a second opinion is worth more than persistence with the first. On anything symptomatic, doctors lead and the chart follows, always.
Practices that suit this Ketu
Tuesday is Ketu’s day in common practice and also serves Mars as dispositor, so the two coincide. The standing observance is the salutation Om Ketave Namah, with Ganesha the customary devotional focus for this graha, so Om Gam Ganapataye Namah suits a household that keeps it. Saturday suits Saturn’s lordship of this star where the family tradition holds it.
The star’s salutation is Om Mitraya Namah, and this mansion has a particular claim on devotional practice generally, since Anuradha’s subject is the sustained bond and bhakti is exactly that directed upward. For this placement it is the most productive practice available, because devotion offered without wanting anything back is the form the tradition regards as highest and the form nearly everybody finds hardest, and here the difficulty is simply absent.
The seva associated with Ketu is the giving of food and support without the giver being known, which suits this placement so naturally that it should be paired with the disciplines below rather than treated as sufficient.
Two disciplines carry the page’s teaching. The acknowledged place comes first and matters most, asking what you are to somebody rather than estimating it, and then deciding on their scale rather than your own, since a bond has two ends and this placement can read only one of them, and its estimate of the other is reliably far too low. And the stated need comes second, one thing asked for deliberately, because a person who requires nothing is never given anything, and being permitted to help is part of what the people who value you are actually asking for.
Questions people ask
Is Ketu in Anuradha good?
The question fits this graha poorly. Mars is the dispositor and Saturn rules the star, so Ketu concentrates a martial character with endurance beneath it and releases the appetite, in the mansion of the chosen bond. It gives long constancy, real depth and an unusual capacity for devotion. Its strain is not being able to see how much you matter to people. The whole chart, the dispositor’s condition and the running dashas decide the delivery.
Is Ketu exalted or debilitated in Scorpio?
You will find both claims, since one tradition places Ketu’s exaltation in Scorpio and others place it in Sagittarius or Taurus with the debilitation opposite. The texts do not agree, so this site reads sign placement through the dispositor instead, which here is Mars.
Why do people seem closer to me than I am to them?
Because the giving side of the bond is intact and the needing side is not, so you are loyal, present and reliable while requiring nothing back. The friendship is real from both ends and unequal in weight, and you cannot detect that from inside, which is why the correction is asking rather than reflecting.
Which pada of Ketu in Anuradha is strongest?
The question works differently for Ketu, since each quarter changes which character is being released. Pada 1 adds the Sun and can lead, pada 2 adds Mercury and investigates, pada 3 adds Venus and is the warmest, and pada 4 is vargottama in Scorpio and the deepest.
Does Ketu in Anuradha mean Kaal Sarp?
No. Kaal Sarp concerns the arrangement of every planet in relation to the nodal axis and is a whole-chart condition, so no nakshatra placement establishes it. The Kaal Sarp Dosha complete guide sets out how it is actually assessed.
What careers suit Ketu in Anuradha?
Psychotherapy and long-term clinical care, medicine in the serious and chronic specialties, research and investigation, surgery and forensic work for the fourth pada, and contemplative or devotional vocations.
What remedies suit Ketu in Anuradha?
Tuesday observance, which serves both Ketu and this sign’s lord, with Saturday as a natural second, the salutations Om Ketave Namah and Om Mitraya Namah, and Ganesha worship where a household keeps it. Devotional practice belongs to this mansion more than to most, since bhakti without wanting a result is the form this placement can actually sustain. The most useful discipline is unritual, asking what you are to somebody instead of estimating it. Gemstones follow the whole chart’s need and never a single placement, and cat’s eye in particular is never worn on a one-line rule.
