Ketu in Purva Phalguni means Ketu was placed between 13 degrees 20 minutes and 26 degrees 40 minutes of Leo at your birth, in the eleventh nakshatra, ruled by Venus and presided over by Bhaga, the apportioner. Leo belongs to the Sun, so the character being concentrated and then released is standing and the wish to be acknowledged, with Venus adding appetite through the star lordship and Ketu removing it. Bhaga’s office decides this page. His name means the share, and what he governs is the portion that is properly yours, which places the graha that claims nothing in the mansion of the rightful allotment. What follows is what it masters and what it empties, the four padas, career, money, detachment, health and practices.
Ketu in Purva Phalguni sits entirely within Leo, so the Ketu in Leo reading gives the sign-level terrain and this page sharpens it to the star. The star’s own reference for any planet placed here lives at the Purva Phalguni nakshatra guide.

Confirm the placement before reading. The checker returns Ketu’s exact nakshatra and pada from the Swiss Ephemeris along with every other graha, and flags a planet close enough to a boundary that birth-time error could move it. Note that this site uses the mean node throughout, and that Ketu always sits exactly opposite Rahu.

On reading Ketu
Ketu is not read the way the seven grahas are, and stating why makes this page usable rather than mystifying.
It has no physical body. Rahu and Ketu are the two points where the Moon’s path crosses the Sun’s, which is why they are always exactly opposite and why they move backward through the zodiac permanently. The tradition calls them chhaya grahas, shadow planets, and depicts them as the two halves of a severed asura, Rahu the head and Ketu the trunk.
Like Rahu, Ketu has no nature of its own and takes the character of the planet ruling the sign it occupies. What it does with that character is the opposite. Rahu enlarges what it finds, and Ketu concentrates it and then withdraws, which produces the pattern the tradition calls mastery without appetite. The classical dictum also holds that Ketu behaves like Mars.
On exaltation the texts disagree, with Scorpio, Sagittarius and Taurus each supported by a substantial tradition, so this site reads sign placement through the dispositor instead. On Kaal Sarp, that is a whole-chart condition, set out properly in the Kaal Sarp Dosha complete guide.
The star through Ketu
Bhaga is one of the Adityas and his portfolio is exact. He governs the share, the portion allotted to a person, and the enjoyment of actually having it, which is why the word survives in bhagya, fortune. What he presides over is not abundance in general but the division of it, and the principle behind the division is that each party receives what is theirs.
The symbol is the front legs of the bed, and the mansion’s territory is leisure, union and the pause after effort. Venus rules the star and the Sun holds the sign.
Now the arrangement, which reverses what this mansion produces for the opposite half of the axis. Rahu here measures its portion against everybody else’s and finds it short. Ketu here does not take up its portion at all.
The distinction that matters is that this is not generosity and not principle. A person acting generously has felt the pull and declined it, and a person acting on principle has decided. Neither has happened. The share was allotted, the claiming step did not occur to anybody involved, and the portion went elsewhere while the person was not paying attention.
The Ketu in Purva Phalguni nature
| Span | 13°20′ to 26°40′ Leo | Star lord | Venus |
| Dispositor | Sun, so Ketu concentrates and releases standing | Deity | Bhaga, the apportioner |
| Symbol | The front legs of the bed | Signature | Warm, capable, unclaiming |
Personal warmth is the first signature. This placement is good company and genuinely liked, and the warmth is uncomplicated because there is nothing being angled for underneath it.
Fairness in division is the second, from Bhaga. Ask this placement to split something between other people and the split will be right, precisely because it wants none of it, which makes it the person a family or a partnership actually trusts with the arithmetic.
Creative capability is the third, from the star. There is real talent here in the performing, designing and hospitable trades, and it operates without the ambition that usually accompanies it.
The strains follow the allotment. The unclaimed share comes first and it is the central work, since the portion that was actually yours goes unregistered. Inheritances are not pursued, settlements are accepted at whatever is first offered, bonuses and rises are not asked after, and the credit for a piece of work settles wherever it lands. None of it is refused, which would at least be a position. It simply passes. Its correction is the claimed portion, taking what was allotted as an act of accuracy rather than of appetite, since Bhaga’s whole system depends on each party receiving what is theirs and an unclaimed share does not vanish, it goes to somebody it was not allotted to.
The unused pause is second, from the mansion’s own subject, where rest and enjoyment are entirely available and simply not taken, answered by leisure scheduled as a fixture rather than waited for.
The declined position is third, from the Sun released, answered by the honest question of whether you are refusing the seat or not noticing it. And the underclaimed place in a partnership is fourth, from the bed’s symbolism, where preferences are not stated because they do not press, answered by the preference said aloud.
What it masters, what it empties
Ketu concentrates a thing and then withdraws from it, and both halves are the placement rather than one being a fault in the other.
What it masters here is the fair division. This placement can allocate between competing parties correctly and be believed while doing it, which is a narrow competence and unusually valuable, since almost nobody who is capable of the arithmetic is also disinterested in the result.
It masters ease with people as well, since a person wanting nothing from a room is restful to be in.
What it empties is its own portion. The share is not tracked, not asked for and not missed, so a working life produces less for this person than the same work produces for anybody else.
It empties the enjoyment too, in the mansion whose subject is precisely that, so the pause after effort is not taken and the effort simply continues.
The corrective is Bhaga’s own principle rather than an argument for wanting more. He apportions, which means the division is meant to be complete, and a portion left unclaimed is not a gift to anybody, it is an error in the accounts. A placement that would never shortchange another person is shortchanging one, and the deity’s own office is the reason that matters. Natives running a Ketu mahadasha feel both halves at full strength, and timing belongs to the dashas rather than to the placement alone.
Male and female charts
Ketu in Purva Phalguni in a man’s chart
The pattern usually shows as a warm, well-liked man with genuine ability who has considerably less to show for his working life than the work would predict, often in a creative or public-facing field, and who is the person everybody trusts to divide something fairly. He does not angle. His watches are the share that was his and passed while he was not attending, and the rest he never takes in a mansion whose subject is rest. His corrections are the portion claimed as a matter of accuracy, and leisure put in the calendar.
Ketu in Purva Phalguni in a female chart
The same warmth and capability appear, and the unclaimed share costs her more, since in most settings a portion not asked for is not offered a second time and the asking is judged more harshly when it comes late. Her divisions between other people are trusted and generally correct. Her watches are the same passing entitlement, and the preference she does not state in a partnership because it does not press on her, which over years produces an arrangement built entirely around somebody else’s. This page’s position is that claiming what was allotted is accuracy rather than appetite, and that it is available to a person with no appetite at all. Her corrections are the portion claimed on a stated schedule, and the preference said aloud.
The four padas of Ketu in Purva Phalguni
The Sun is the dispositor throughout, and each quarter is further read by the ruler of its navamsa, which is the secondary character being concentrated and released. The navamsa calculator renders the full chart.
Pada 1: 13°20′ to 16°40′ Leo, Leo navamsa
The most visible quarter, and vargottama, Leo in both charts, so the Sun is the character at both levels and the subtraction runs deepest. Presence and the capacity to hold a room are at their fullest here and the wish to use them is entirely gone, which produces someone unusually able in front of people and completely uninterested in being in front of them. Strong for performance, teaching and public roles taken up for other reasons. The watch is the platform declined, and the correction is the position taken because the work needs it.
Pada 2: 16°40′ to 20°00′ Leo, Virgo navamsa
The exacting quarter. Mercury rules the navamsa, so analysis and method attach to the standing, which makes this the pada best equipped to actually track what it is owed. Strong for the technical end of creative fields, editing and administration. The watch is the standard turned inward while the entitlement goes unexamined, and the correction is the same precision applied to your own accounts.
Pada 3: 20°00′ to 23°20′ Leo, Libra navamsa
The relational quarter, where Venus rules both the star and this navamsa, so the character being subtracted is doubled. Charm and social judgement are present and the appetite behind them is completely absent, which suits mediation, hospitality and the arts. This is the quarter where the unused pause runs strongest, since pleasure is doubly available and doubly unclaimed. The correction is leisure scheduled.
Pada 4: 23°20′ to 26°40′ Leo, Scorpio navamsa
The deepest quarter. Mars rules the navamsa, which the graha already shares, so force and privacy attach to the standing, producing staying power and a life held closely. Strong for research, investigation and the demanding professions. The watch is the grievance about an unclaimed share retained silently for years, and the correction is the matter raised while it is small.
Career and work
Disinterested division is the organising principle, so allocation work leads, and the fit is stronger than it sounds. Compensation, grant-making, estate division, mediation and the trustee functions all require somebody who can do the arithmetic and wants none of the result, which is exactly this placement.
The creative and performing fields follow from the star, where the talent is real and the career is generally smaller than the talent, which suits work taken for its own sake.
Hospitality belongs to Bhaga’s own subject, since the business of providing enjoyment is the mansion’s territory and this placement can supply it without needing any of it.
Teaching suits the first pada, and research the fourth. The filter is the work itself, this Ketu performs where the thing is worth doing and disengages entirely from anything that is only about position.
Money
The financial pattern is the clearest statement of this page’s subject, since the earning capacity is real and the accumulated result is consistently below it.
The leaks follow the claim. The unpursued entitlement is the first and the largest, covering inheritances, settlements, refunds, rises and everything else that requires somebody to ask, and the correction is a scheduled review, once a year, of what you are owed and by whom, undertaken as an administrative task rather than when something feels unfair, since nothing will feel unfair.
The first offer accepted is second, in negotiations of every kind, answered by the plain habit of asking once for more regardless of how the number feels. And undercharging is third, since a capability that arrived easily does not feel billable, answered by pricing against the market.
Detachment
Ketu is the graha of release, so this series states plainly what each placement tends to withdraw from, on the principle that a named pattern is easier to work with than an unnamed one.
The detachment here is from one’s own share, and it is worth distinguishing carefully from things it resembles. It is not generosity, which involves feeling the pull and giving anyway. It is not principle, which involves a decision. It is not modesty, which involves a wish that has been managed. In each of those something was there and was handled. Here the claiming step simply does not occur.
The practical shape is that entitlements pass. The rise is not asked for, the inheritance is not chased, the settlement is accepted at the opening figure and the credit for a piece of work is assigned to whoever mentions it first. Over a working life the arithmetic on that is substantial, and this placement is generally the last to notice.
What helps is reframing the claim as accuracy rather than appetite, which is available to somebody who has no appetite. A share allotted to you and not taken does not disappear. It goes to a person it was not allotted to, and this placement, which would never knowingly shortchange anybody, is producing exactly that outcome for itself. Put that way the correction becomes a matter of getting the accounts right, which is something this temperament is entirely willing to do.
The second half is the pause. This is the mansion of rest after effort, and rest is the other thing that has to be claimed rather than waited for, since a placement with no appetite for it will simply keep working.
Health
Ketu is associated with conditions that are sudden, obscure or resistant to diagnosis, and with amplifying whatever the rest of the chart already indicates rather than with an organ of its own. Purva Phalguni’s territory in the nakshatra purusha is the right hand, and Leo governs the heart, spine and upper back.
The heart belongs to the sign and deserves routine cardiovascular attention, which matters here because a person who does not claim rest accumulates strain without registering it as strain.
The spine and upper back belong to the sign as well, and the load is postural and sustained.
The practical note follows this page’s subject exactly, since medical attention is itself something that has to be claimed, and a placement that does not ask for what it is owed does not ask for an appointment either. Scheduled screening matters here more than reactive treatment. Where a complaint has resisted explanation, a second opinion is worth more than persistence with the first. On anything symptomatic, doctors lead and the chart follows, always.
Practices that suit this Ketu
Tuesday is Ketu’s day in common practice, and the standing observance is the salutation Om Ketave Namah, with Ganesha the customary devotional focus for this graha, so Om Gam Ganapataye Namah suits a household that keeps it. Friday suits the Venus lordship of this star and Sunday the Sun as dispositor.
The star’s salutation is Om Bhagaya Namah, and since Bhaga is himself an Aditya it sits naturally beside the solar observances, so Surya Namaskar performed properly serves this mansion well.
The seva associated with Ketu is the giving of food and support without the giver being known, which this placement performs so readily that it should be paired with the discipline below rather than treated as the whole of the practice, since giving is not what is missing here.
Two disciplines carry the page’s teaching. The claimed portion comes first and matters most, taking what was allotted as an act of accuracy rather than of appetite, since a share left unclaimed does not disappear but goes to somebody it was not meant for, and a placement that would never shortchange another person is producing exactly that result for itself. And the scheduled pause comes second, rest put in the calendar as a fixture, because this is the mansion of the rest after effort and a person with no appetite for it will simply carry on working until something makes them stop.
Questions people ask
Is Ketu in Purva Phalguni good?
The question fits this graha poorly. The Sun is the dispositor and Venus rules the star, so Ketu concentrates standing and appetite and releases both, in the mansion of the rightful share. It gives real warmth, genuine fairness in dividing between others and creative capability. Its strain is a portion of your own that goes unclaimed. The whole chart, the dispositor’s condition and the running dashas decide the delivery.
Is not claiming things a virtue?
It resembles one and is not the same thing. Generosity involves feeling the pull and giving anyway, and principle involves a decision, whereas here the claiming step does not occur at all. Nothing is being renounced, which is why the outcome is an accounting error rather than an act.
Which pada of Ketu in Purva Phalguni is strongest?
The question works differently for Ketu, since each quarter changes which character is being released. Pada 1 is vargottama in Leo, most able in front of people and least interested in it, pada 2 adds Mercury and can track what it is owed, pada 3 doubles Venus and leaves pleasure most unclaimed, and pada 4 adds Mars and goes deepest.
Does Ketu in Purva Phalguni mean Kaal Sarp?
No. Kaal Sarp concerns the arrangement of every planet in relation to the nodal axis and is a whole-chart condition, so no nakshatra placement establishes it. The Kaal Sarp Dosha complete guide sets out how it is actually assessed.
What careers suit Ketu in Purva Phalguni?
Allocation work including compensation, grant-making, estate division, mediation and trustee roles, the creative and performing fields, hospitality, teaching for the first pada and research for the fourth.
What remedies suit Ketu in Purva Phalguni?
Tuesday observance with Friday and Sunday as natural seconds, the salutations Om Ketave Namah and Om Bhagaya Namah, Ganesha worship where a household keeps it, and Surya Namaskar since Bhaga is an Aditya. The most useful discipline is unritual, claiming what was allotted as a matter of accuracy. Gemstones follow the whole chart’s need and never a single placement, and cat’s eye in particular is never worn on a one-line rule.
