Perhaps no technical choice in astrology generates more debate than the house system. Traditional Vedic astrology typically uses Whole Sign or Sripati (Porphyry) houses. Krishnamurti Paddhati insists on Placidus. This is not a minor preference. Houses span variable degrees. A house may span 20 degrees or 50 degrees depending on latitude and chart. This means signs can be intercepted (entirely contained within a house) or a house can span multiple signs.

Cusp sensitivity enables timing. Because cusps move rapidly (approximately 1 degree every 4 minutes), the Sub-Lord of a cusp changes frequently. This enables the differentiation of charts for people born close together in time, including twins.

Why KP Insists on Placidus

Empirical accuracy: Predictions based on Placidus cusps proved more accurate in his research than those based on Whole Sign or Equal houses.

Placidus: The 1st house might span 15 Aries to 20 Taurus (example). The same planet at 5 degrees Taurus is now in the 1st house, not the 2nd.

KP practitioners respond:

Results matter: The test of any system is predictive accuracy. KP claims superior accuracy for event timing using Placidus.

Modern precision: Ancient astrologers lacked precise timekeeping and calculation tools. Modern software makes Placidus calculation trivial.

Latitude adjustment: Extreme latitude distortion affects few people. For the vast majority of charts, Placidus works well.

Different questions: When clients ask “Will I get this job?” they want a clear answer. KP with Placidus provides this where character-focused systems do not.

In Placidus, the 12th cusp might be at 14 degrees of a different sign. The Sub-Lord at that degree differs.

Two astrologers using different house systems analyze the same chart and reach different conclusions. KP claims the Placidus analysis will prove correct when the person’s life unfolds.
